About the Role

We are seeking a Front End Developer / UI Designer with a strong dual skillset to support the delivery of user-focused digital services within a Federal Government environment. This role sits within a multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for designing and developing intuitive, accessible, and high-performing user interfaces.
You will play a key role in shaping user experiences by combining design thinking with front-end development expertise, working across the full lifecycle from discovery through to implementation.

Position: Front End Developer / UI Designer – $800–$1,200/day + super
Location: ACT (Onsite)
Working Arrangement: Onsite (flexibility considered case-by-case)
Start Date: 1 July 2026
Duration: 12 months + 2 x 12-month extensions

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop user-centric digital interfaces aligned to design systems and style guides
• Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs
• Translate design concepts into responsive front-end components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Work with frameworks such as React or Angular to build scalable UI solutions
• Collaborate with user researchers and designers to incorporate usability insights
• Conduct usability testing and ensure accessibility requirements are met (WCAG 2.1 AA)
• Iterate designs based on user feedback and testing outcomes
• Advocate for user-centric design practices across technical and business teams
• Work closely with back-end developers to integrate front-end solutions
• Contribute to continuous improvement of digital products and user experience standards
• Participate in agile delivery processes and cross-functional team collaboration

About You

• Demonstrated experience in both front-end development and UI design
• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks such as React or Angular
• Experience working within established design systems and style guides
• Proven ability to translate user research into actionable design improvements
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.1 AA
• Experience designing wireframes, prototypes, and user interfaces with high attention to detail
• Ability to communicate design decisions clearly and influence stakeholders
• Experience working in agile, multi-disciplinary teams
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in design, UX, IT, or related disciplines (desirable)
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Must be able to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance
• Must have valid working rights in Australia (Australian Citizen or long-term visa holders only; no sponsorship available)
