About the Role

Peabody is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Financial and Operations Accounting team within the Peabody Australia group. This role has become available due to an internal promotion and represents an excellent opportunity to step into a financial accountant focused position within a complex mining business.

Reporting to the Manager Financial and Operations Accounting, you will support the delivery of accurate and timely financial results across Peabody’s mining operations. The role has a strong emphasis on lease accounting, month end and mining specific accounting items such as coal inventory, deferred development, coal royalty etc. with exposure to both IFRS and US GAAP.

This position has no direct reports and is well suited to a hands‑on financial accountant who enjoys working through complex accounting matters and providing technical advice.

What You Will Do

• Lead the application of lease accounting standards under IFRS and US GAAP, including contract reviews, journals, reconciliations, and system maintenance
• Support month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end accounting, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory, royalties, and mining‑specific accounting matters
• Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual reporting deliverables

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday basis, working from our Fortitude Valley office with flexible start/finish times and a redistributed working week giving employees the option to finish at noon on Fridays.

About You

You are a technically strong financial accountant with a solid grounding in accounting standards and a keen interest in complex accounting and operating environments. You are detail‑oriented, analytical, and confident working with stakeholders across finance and the broader business.

We are looking for someone who has:

• CA or CPA qualification with 5+ years’ experience in chartered accounting or industry
• Strong understanding of IFRS and US GAAP, including differences between standards
• Experience preparing technical accounting advice, memos, and audit support documentation

(Mining or resources experience is highly regarded but not essential)
