About The Role
We’re seeking a motivated Certified Building Inspector (level 2 or above) to lead statutory building certification functions, provide expert technical advice, and ensure safe, compliant development across the region.
What Your Day Will Look Like
- Support and assist the Manager Development Compliance and Plumbing Services as Council’s principal Building Certifier
- Manage regulatory breaches by monitoring, investigating and reporting on illegal build matters
- Provide expert advice to the public on building certification and compliance issues, contributing to the safety of the Fraser Coast community
- Compile evidence for prosecutions where required by Council and, when appropriate, attend court to act as witness on behalf of Council
- Coordinate and undertake regular inspections
- Manage and assess development applications for building work as required
- Assist in development and implementation of monitoring programmes for high‑risk premises
- Develop and modify systems to maximise efficiencies and ensure compliance with statutory requirements
What You’ll Need For Success
- Bachelor of Building Surveying or equivalent relevant qualification
- Minimum QBCC Building Certifier Level 2
- Expert knowledge of the Building Act 1975, the Building Regulation 2006, relevant building codes, local laws and a sound understanding of the Planning Act 2016
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal – listening, advising and negotiation skills
- Written – correspondence and reports
- Demonstrated ability to work within a certification and regulatory team, meeting all statutory deadlines
- Intermediate to advanced computer software proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, RAMS, Document Management systems and other Local Government Software systems)
- Valid car licence
