About the Role

As Commissioning Manager, you will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities across multiple projects nationwide. This includes grid connection infrastructure, substations, and balance-of-plant (BoP) systems, ensuring safe, compliant and timely energisation of the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Commissioning Planning and Strategy

• Develop and manage the overall HV commissioning strategy and execution plan
• Define commissioning scope for substations, Transformers, switchgears and cables
• Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and grid operators on commissioning requirements
• Establish detailed procedures, ITPs, ITCs and commissioning schedules

2. Technical Oversight

• Lead HV Testing and Commissioning activities including primary injection testing
• Secondary injection and protection relay testing (including IEC 61850)
• Cable testing (VLF, IR, Sheath)
• Ensure compliance with grid codes and utility standards (AEMO, DNSP/TNSP_)
• Review and approve test results, commissioning reports and redline drawings
• Aid troubleshooting of all plant equipment

3. Safety Management

• Enforce strict adherence to HV safety procedures and permit systems
• Lead energisation risk assessments, and isolation plans
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as AS3000, 2067

4. Stakeholder Coordination

• Interface with OEMs (Battery, PCS, Transformers, switchgear)
• Network Service Providers (TNSP, DNSP)
• AEMO (for grid compliance and registration)
• Lead commissioning meetings, progress reporting, and issue resolution

5. Grid compliance and Testing

• Manage and support R2 testing and grid compliance activities
• Generator Performance Standards Validation
• Hold Point witness testing with NSP/AEMO
• Ensure all Commissioning documentation meets regulatory and grid connection requirements

6. Documentation and Handover

• Compile and review test certificates and reports
• Lead handover to O&M including training and operational readiness
• Schedule and risk management
• Track commissioning progress against project schedule
• Identify risks, delays and technical issues; implement mitigation plans
• Support project milestones such as First Energisation, Backfeed, First charge/discharge of BESS, Practical Completion (PC)

About You

• 8–10+ years’ experience in commissioning and testing of electrical systems
• An Australian recognised Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or similar.
• Proficient in Protection & control systems
• Renewable energy projects (Solar and/or BESS highly regarded)
• Experience with HV, MV & LV systems
• Knowledge of Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and testing procedures
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and delivering to project budgets
• 3-5 years’ experience with either an EPC Contractor, NER or NSPs.
• Proven leadership and presentation skill
• Work well under pressure
• Collaboration skill in multi-disciplinary organisation
• Ability to travel and work away from home as required
