About The Role

As a Geelong Disability Support Worker in our Support Worker team, you will provide high-quality, person-centred support to people with disability in a 24/7 care environment. Working on a casual basis, you will assist participants to live as independently as possible within Supported Independent Living settings, while managing complex behaviours of concern with professionalism, empathy and consistency. You will work collaboratively with families, guardians and other professionals to implement individual support plans, promote choice and control, and ensure a safe, respectful and empowering environment for each person you support.

What You'll Do

  • Provide day-to-day support to participants in a 24/7 Supported Independent Living environment, including assistance with personal care, daily living tasks and community access.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and plans to safely and effectively support participants with complex behaviours of concern.
  • Follow individualised support plans, risk assessments and routines to promote participant independence, dignity and quality of life.
  • Support participants to develop daily living skills, social skills and community participation in line with their goals and NDIS plans.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in participants’ physical, emotional and behavioural presentation and escalation concerns as required.
  • Accurately document progress notes, incident reports and any relevant observations in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with families, guardians, behaviour support practitioners and other health and allied health professionals.
  • Maintain a safe living environment by following all WHS, manual handling, infection control and emergency procedures.
  • Administer or support with medication in line with organisational policies and competency requirements (where applicable).
  • Contribute to a positive team culture by communicating openly, attending handovers and participating in training and supervision.
  • Work across a 24/7 roster, including mornings, evenings, sleepovers/active nights, weekends and public holidays as required.

Criteria

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Disability Support Worker or in a similar role, preferably in Supported Independent Living or 24/7 care environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex behaviours of concern, using positive behaviour support approaches.
  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services or equivalent qualification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, with the ability to complete clear and accurate documentation.
  • Solid understanding of person-centred practice, human rights and the principles of choice, control and inclusion for people with disability.
  • Knowledge of NDIS practice standards, participant safeguarding and duty of care in disability support settings.
  • Ability to follow behaviour support, care and risk management plans with consistency and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Physical capacity to perform manual handling and personal care tasks safely in a 24/7 care environment.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain as required by legislation).
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle (if required for participant transport).
  • Availability to work flexible, rotating shifts across days, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
