Kogan People Solutions, recruiters, has partnered with a busy, iconic, and well-established local snack bar and takeaway business in Garbutt (with a 5 * rating) to recruit a reliable, hard-working Kitchen Hand for a secure, full-time employment opportunity. Famous for serving up top-tier burgers, hot fried classics, and fresh sandwiches to local tradies and workers, this venue needs an efficient professional to keep the back-of-house operating smoothly during fast-paced breakfast and lunch rushes. The job is full time and ongoing.
Salary: $70,000 – $75,000 (negotiable) + Superannuation per annum
Hours: Daytime hours, Monday to Friday (No late nights, no weekends!)
Location: Garbutt, Townsville (Must have reliable transport for those early starts)
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Working closely with the head cook and management team, you will be the engine room of the kitchen. Your daily duties will include:
- Food Preparation: Washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning fresh ingredients (salads, burger toppings, fillings) daily to ensure seamless service.
- Cooking Assistance: Helping assemble burgers and sandwiches, and operating commercial deep fryers (chips, potato scallops, snack items) during peak service hours.
- Cleanliness & Sanitisation: Maintaining absolute cleanliness across all food preparation areas
- Stock Control & Logistics: Unpacking and safely storing bulk food deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method in the cold room and freezer.
- End-of-Day Operations: Cleaning fryers, wiping down hotplates/grills, emptying commercial waste bins, and mopping floors to maintain peak health and safety compliance.
To be considered we expect to see:
- Speed & Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy stock boxes (up to 15–20kg), and work efficiently in a fast-paced, warm kitchen environment.
- Punctuality & Reliability: Strong work ethic with a flawless track record for punctuality.
- Team Coordination: Excellent communication skills to take direct instructions from the cook and collaborate seamlessly and cheerfully under pressure.
- Experience and education: At least 2 years’ previous experience in a fast-casual kitchen, takeaway shop, or high-volume fast-food environment expected along with positive, high-energy attitude is essential. We expect applicants to have completed secondary education, or perhaps a Cert 1 or better in a relevant area, and offer lots of life and work skills. A current Food Handler Certificate is highly desirable.
