About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has unique opportunities for an Assistant Project Officer Aboriginal identified to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment flora fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).

This pivotal rewarding role supports the strategic leadership and coordination of the state-wide Aboriginal Discovery Program. The Aboriginal Discovery Program in NSW National Parks (NPWS) offers guided tours and educational programs led by Aboriginal staff. These programs deepen visitors understanding of over 65000 years of Aboriginal culture strengthen cultural knowledge sharing and help connect people through stories learning and experience.

This role will support the implementation of the place based Aboriginal Cultural Tour Expansion Project across the state. You will work closely with the Team Leader Education (Identified) and Education Officer (identified) to support the state-wide implementation of the Aboriginal Discovery Program Roadmap Eight Step Best Practice Model.

About You

Were looking for a natural coordinator organiser and collaborator who is passionate about making a positive difference through education and cultural connection. You have a strong identity and show genuine respect for Aboriginal values knowledge and protocols. You bring deep cultural knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture with experience working closely with Aboriginal communities.

With a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to cultural integrity you can manage multiple priorities and support effective delivery monitoring and reporting of programs projects and agreements. Your strong communication and problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills combined with your ability to work both independently and as part of a team will enable you to thrive in this role.

Essential Requirements

• This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
• is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and
• identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and
• is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people government organisations and communities.
• Knowledge respect and understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols.
• Experience in development and delivery of programs and projects.
• Understanding of contemporary project management principles and practices.

Highly Desirable

• Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills with experience in innovative technologies digital communication platforms and Microsoft suite
