Commodities Trading Desk Associate — Automation & Analytics

Overview

Susquehanna has an opportunity for a Trading Desk Associate to join our Commodities trading team in our Sydney office.

Our trading desks operate in fast-moving global markets where precision, speed and collaboration are critical. As a Trading Desk Associate, you will support the day-to-day operations of the Commodities desk by ensuring trading activity is accurate, efficient and well controlled. You'll work closely with traders to manage operational workflows, maintain trading systems and identify opportunities to improve processes through technology and automation.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in commodities markets, exceptional attention to detail and a passion for solving problems in a fast-paced trading environment.

What you’ll do

• Support the Commodities trading desk with daily operational activities and workflow management.
• Reconcile trades, transactions, positions and P&L reporting.
• Maintain trading systems, proprietary applications and desk tools.
• Assist with exchange and regulatory processes to ensure accurate and compliant trading operations.
• Develop and enhance Excel, Python or SQL-based tools to improve efficiency and automate manual processes.
• Partner with traders, technology and Operations teams to resolve issues and deliver continuous process improvements.

What we're looking for

What we’re looking for

• 3+ years' experience supporting a front office trading desk within a financial markets environment, including trade booking and trade lifecycle activities.
• Understanding of commodities markets and financial instruments, particularly futures and derivatives.
• Advanced Excel skills, with experience using Python, SQL or other programming languages to automate processes and analyse data.
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across Trading, Technology and Operations teams.
• Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-moving, evolving environment; stays hands-on while contributing to process improvements and uplifting standards.
• Attributes: Analytical, detail-oriented and organised; accountable, proactive and continuous-improvement minded; a reliable, flexible and collaborative team player with sound judgement and the confidence to ask questions..
