Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support students with special needs Monday – Friday. The ideal candidate will work closely with educators and support staff to create a positive learning environment that fosters academic and social growth for students with diverse abilities. This position requires a commitment to understanding and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and providing tailored assistance to help students achieve their goals.

Responsibilities
– Assist classroom teachers in implementing instructional strategies and activities designed for students with special needs.
– Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them with academic tasks and social interactions.
– Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting any concerns to the supervising teacher.
– Support students in developing life skills, including communication, self-regulation, and independence.
– Help maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment, promoting positive behavior and conflict resolution.
– Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to adapt materials and resources to meet the needs of individual students.
– Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
– Assist with the preparation of classroom materials and the organization of educational activities and events.
– Perform other related duties as assigned to support the educational goals of students and the overall functioning of the classroom.
– Assist students with self care needs such as feeding, toileting, hygiene needs.

Requirements
– High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
– Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
– Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
– Ability to follow directions and implement strategies as outlined in IEPs and lesson plans.
– Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus.
– Must be able to pass background checks and any required training or certifications.
– Availability to work part-time hours, with flexibility to accommodate the school schedule.
