The Role
We are keen to connect with Emergency Medicine Registrars interested in joining a regional referral hospital that offers outstanding training, a diverse case mix and significant procedural exposure. As the major referral centre for Central Queensland, the department provides experience across adult and paediatric emergency medicine, trauma and high acuity presentations, supported by experienced FACEMs and a strong multidisciplinary team.
Registrars are actively involved in the assessment and management of a broad spectrum of emergency presentations while developing increasing clinical responsibility within a well supported consultant led environment. The department's referral role ensures excellent exposure to complex multispecialty cases and emergency procedures.
The Hospital
This regional referral hospital is the principal acute healthcare provider for Central Queensland, delivering comprehensive specialist services across a wide range of medical and surgical disciplines.
Confirmed features include:
- 305-bed regional referral hospital.
- Emergency Department managing more than 50,000 presentations annually, with approximately 25% paediatric presentations.
- Referral centre for Central Queensland with exposure to complex multispecialty emergencies, trauma and high-acuity presentations.
- Comprehensive on-site specialist services including ICU, Anaesthetics, General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Training & Development
Training is a key strength of this position, with structured education and broad opportunities to progress within Emergency Medicine.
Confirmed opportunities include:
- ACEM accredited Non-Major Referral Emergency Department for 24 months of Emergency Medicine training, including Training Stage 4.
- Six-month Special Skills Post in Emergency Ultrasound.
- Opportunity to complete ACEM paediatric logbook requirements through significant paediatric exposure.
- Rotations with ICU, Anaesthetics, Paediatrics and Medical specialties.
- Approximately 16 hours of on-floor FACEM supervision daily with robust consultant on-call support.
- Protected teaching in accordance with ACEM guidelines, with trainee assessment aligned to the ACEM Curriculum Framework.

Requirements
- Eligible for registration with AHPRA.
- Appropriate postgraduate Emergency Medicine or acute care experience.
- Interest in or enrolment with ACEM is desirable.
