Portfolio Solutions, operates as a scaled specialty portfolio underwriting engine, focused on delegated portfolio business, the role being to deliver profitable, sustainable growth through portfolio-led underwriting, leverage automation, product innovation and foster broker and agent partnerships, while improving efficiency, scalability, and maintaining underwriting discipline.

This niche underwriting role, combines high-volume portfolio management with commercial accountability, overseeing programmes and facilities with high annual GWP, generated through a large volume of individual SME transactions. The role is ideally suited to an underwriter who enjoys driving portfolio performance, fostering strong stakeholder engagement (both internal and external), and delivering sustainable growth through effective portfolio management.

Key responsibilities:

\n

\n
• As the Senior Underwriter, you will contribute to the growth and profitability of portfolio solutions by underwriting liability programme and facility business, strengthening broker relationships, and supporting product and portfolio development.
\n
• Duties will include but not be limited to:
\n
• Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers and clients to support growth, service excellence, and the Liberty brand.
\n
• Review, rate, and underwrite new business and renewal business across Liability programme and facility portfolios,
\n
• Deliver a high standard of underwriting service that supports strong broker and client experience.
\n
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless underwriting delivery and portfolio support.
\n
• Identify cross-selling opportunities and collaborate with other product line underwriters to provide a comprehensive service.
\n
• Contribute to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual portfolio reporting.
\n
• Support product development activity, including wording reviews, market research, and new product initiatives.
\n
• Assist with compliance requirements, delegated authority audits, and regulatory obligations.
\n
• Help streamline administrative processes and contribute to continuous improvement in underwriting practices.
\n
• Manage the portfolio with a focus on growth, retention, and profitability.
\n
• Mentor coach and develop fellow team members.
\n

About you:

\n

This is a specialist role, and the strongest candidates will have experience with underwriting and managing different liability portfolios We're looking for a Senior Underwriter in liability who is who is comfortable balancing high-volume, lower-value transactions with the strategic management of a valuable overall programme.

• Experience gained within underwriting and managing a portfolio,
\n
• Comfortable managing a high volume of smaller transactions while keeping sight of the value and performance of the total programme.
\n
• Strong technical underwriting capability, within liability.
\n
• Proven relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and engage brokers and clients.
\n
• Effective negotiation and selling skills, with a commercial mindset.
\n
• Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
\n
• Analytical thinking and sound judgement when assessing complex risks.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to grow and manage a profitable portfolio.
\n
• Broad business, financial, and market awareness.
\n
• Strong strategic thinking and agility, with an interest in product and portfolio development.

• Collaborative approach, with the ability to mentor and support less experienced team members.
