Job Summary

Deccan Flavour is a popular Indian restaurant located in Surry Hills, New South Wales, renowned for its authentic South Indian and Hyderabadi cuisine. We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our team on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of authentic Indian dishes, maintaining food quality standards, and supporting the efficient operation of the kitchen while ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene requirement

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, season, and cook a variety of authentic South Indian, Hyderabadi, and Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.
  • Prepare and portion ingredients, including meats, vegetables, spices, sauces, and other food items required for daily service.
  • Monitor food quality during preparation and cooking to ensure consistency, taste, and presentation standards are maintained.
  • Store food safely and ensure proper handling, rotation, and storage of ingredients in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Operate kitchen equipment and cooking appliances safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with planning daily food preparation requirements and estimating food quantities.
  • Inspect ingredients and food supplies to ensure freshness and quality.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, equipment, utensils, and food preparation surfaces.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Assist in receiving and storing stock and maintaining an organised kitchen environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Relevant qualification in commercial cookery, hospitality, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience as a Cook or similar role.
  • Experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of South Indian and Hyderabadi cooking methods, ingredients, spices, and food preparation techniques.
  • Ability to prepare and cook a variety of dishes while maintaining consistency and quality.
  • Sound understanding of food safety requirements, hygiene standards, and kitchen operations.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and food preparation procedures accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high food quality standards.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Professional attitude with a passion for authentic Indian cuisine and customer satisfaction.
