Job description

If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you've likely heard of AMP. But at a time when society is changing, we are too. We're now a nimbler business with new leadership and thinking.

For us, these are exciting times. There's a real potential for big thinkers to help us redefine what financial services could be. And turn our legacy into something even more positive and powerful for the future.

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we've been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

The Head of Tax, Platforms plays a critical role in supporting AMP's North Platforms business, providing strategic leadership across tax governance, compliance, reporting and advisory activities for superannuation, pension, IDPS and managed portfolio products. Partnering closely with senior leaders across Platforms, Product, Operations, Finance, Risk and Legal, the role delivers commercially focused tax advice that informs business decisions, product initiatives and transformation programs.

The role strengthens tax risk management, supports effective Board and Trustee oversight, and ensures compliance with AMP's tax governance framework and evolving regulatory requirements. By combining technical expertise with strategic insight, it helps protect AMP's reputation while enabling exceptional customer and business outcomes.

How are you going to make an impact

Business Partnering & Commercial Advisory

  • Partner with Platforms leadership to provide commercially focused tax advice on strategic initiatives, product developments, business changes and transformation programs.
  • Support decision-making by translating complex tax requirements into practical solutions that deliver exceptional customer and business outcomes.

Tax Governance & Risk Management

  • Lead the Platforms tax governance and risk management framework, ensuring alignment with AMP's tax governance framework, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee tax risk identification, controls, assurance activities, Board and Trustee reporting, and engagement with the ATO and other regulators.

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Provide oversight of all Platforms tax compliance, reporting and tax effect accounting obligations, ensuring complete, accurate and timely reporting.
  • Oversee direct tax obligations, member tax reporting, corporate actions and continuous improvement of tax processes, controls and reporting capabilities.

Regulatory Change & Advocacy

  • Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory and ATO developments impacting Platforms and lead the implementation of significant tax and regulatory change initiatives.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Lead, develop and mentor a high-performing tax team, strengthening organisational capability across tax governance, risk management and business partnering.
  • Foster collaboration across Operations, Product, Finance, Legal and Risk teams while effectively balancing business-as-usual activities and strategic initiatives.

What you will bring to the role

  • 15+ years' experience in Australian tax advisory, tax governance, tax compliance and tax leadership roles.
  • Experience preparing and presenting advice, reporting and materials for Boards, Audit Committees, regulators and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting tax aspects of major business-led projects, transformation programs and regulatory change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing tax teams and developing professional capability.
  • Postgraduate qualification in taxation (such as a Master of Taxation) or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) designation.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as The Tax Institute or a Law society.
  • Direct platforms experience across superannuation, IDPS and investment management, with a strong understanding of taxation issues relevant to platform products and structures.
  • Extensive expertise in tax compliance, reporting, tax effect accounting and the annual lifecycle of tax obligations for superannuation funds and IDPS members.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating tax governance, risk management and control frameworks, including tax risk identification, monitoring, remediation and continuous improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of ATO assurance and engagement programs, including Combined Assurance Reviews and contemporary tax governance expectations.
  • Strong understanding of emerging tax, legislative and regulatory developments impacting financial services, with the ability to interpret complex requirements and translate them into practical business outcomes.
  • Proven track record of improving tax processes, controls, governance and reporting effectiveness.

Technical Expertise

Additionally, you will bring excellent stakeholder management and leadership experience, with the ability to influence decision-making through clear, practical advice in complex and highly regulated environments. You will have a track record of engaging effectively with Boards, Committees, regulators and senior business leaders, while demonstrating sound judgement, resilience and a strong risk mindset. Experience leading and developing high-performing teams and driving successful outcomes through change and competing priorities will also be essential.

Who You Are

You are a commercially minded tax leader who combines deep technical expertise with sound judgement to deliver practical solutions in a complex and evolving environment. You have the confidence to challenge, influence and guide decision-making while balancing tax, risk and governance requirements with business priorities and customer outcomes.

You communicate complex concepts with clarity and bring a collaborative approach to achieving outcomes across a broad range of stakeholders. As an inclusive leader, you are passionate about developing people, building capability and fostering a high-performing culture that encourages continuous learning, accountability and shared success.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role will be reflected in the delivery of high-quality tax advice that supports Platforms initiatives, product development and operational decision-making. You will strengthen tax governance, risk management and control frameworks, ensuring compliance and reporting obligations are delivered accurately, efficiently and in line with regulatory expectations.

You will be recognised for maintaining outstanding relationships with key stakeholders, achieving positive outcomes from ATO engagement and regulatory reviews and successfully embedding tax considerations into business and regulatory change initiatives. Through your leadership, the tax team will continue to build capability, engagement and expertise while contributing to strong business, customer and governance outcomes across the Platforms business.
