Are you an experienced building professional looking to apply your technical expertise in a regulatory environment?

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is seeking a Building Advisor to join its Industry Advisory team in the Licensing and Registration Division. This is an opportunity to support licensing and registration outcomes with the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC), ensuring high standards across Victoria's building industry by providing expert technical advice on the assessment of complex building practitioner registration applications and supporting consistent regulatory decision-making.

About the Building & Plumbing Commission

The BPC is Victoria's regulator for the building and plumbing industries, bringing together the Victorian Building Authority, Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority into one organisation. The BPC plays a vital role in protecting consumers while supporting a safe, compliant and high-performing building industry.

About the Role

The Building Advisor will provide specialist technical advice on the assessment of building registration applications and renewals. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will interpret legislation, assess technical information and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations on the competency of building practitioners support sound regulatory decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess building practitioner competency.
  • Provide authoritative advice on building legislation, codes and standards as they relate to builder's registration. .
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and recommendations.
  • Meet with practitioners and stakeholders to assessment the technical competency of candidates.
  • Contribute to consistent and transparent regulatory decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Work as a member of the Industry Advisory team to build team knowledge and assessment collateral.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Licensing and Registration Division.

About You

You are a respected building professional with strong technical knowledge, practical experience and excellent communication skills. You enjoy interpreting legislation, solving complex problems and providing practical advice that supports both industry and consumer outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Current registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Domestic Builder (Unlimited), Commercial Builder (Unlimited), Building Surveyor Unlimited &/or have significant experience in training and assessment within the building sector.
  • Extensive experience within the building industry or a regulatory environment.
  • Strong understanding of the Building Act, regulations, National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A commitment to integrity, professionalism and continuous improvement.
