Job Description About the Role \n
As a Protection Relay Engineer, you will play a key role in the commissioning, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems across a variety of high-voltage power system projects.
\n
Your responsibilities will include:
\n
- \n
- Commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems and schemes. \n
- Configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of IEC 61850 and GOOSE communications. \n
- Testing and commissioning of HV substations, secondary systems, and primary plant. \n
- Commissioning and maintenance of HV/LV electrical assets. \n
- Testing and commissioning of power generation systems and power transformers. \n
- Providing technical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and training to field technicians and junior engineers. \n
- Preparing commissioning documentation, protection test plans, and detailed technical reports. \n
- Supporting project delivery while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements. \n
About You \n
To be successful in this role, you will have:
\n
- \n
- A Bachelor of Electrical Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia. \n
- Minimum 3 years' experience in protection systems, testing, and commissioning. \n
- Strong understanding of power system protection principles and relay technologies. \n
- Experience with IEC 61850 and GOOSE messaginghighly regarded. \n
- Experience using the Omicron suite for protection and secondary systems testing. \n
- Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, industry regulations, and electrical safety requirements. \n
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. \n
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. \n
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. \n
Highly Regarded \n
- \n
- Power station or generation facility experience. \n
- Experience working on utility, mining, or renewable energy projects. \n
- Previous site commissioning and fault-finding experience. \n
