Purpose of Position

\n

The Associate is part of a team assisting a Judge in the day-to-day management of Chambers and Court. The role of the Associate is to manage chambers and to supervise the Deputy Associate.

\n

• Satisfy all relevant statutory obligations

• Satisfy the Australian Public Service Values and Code of Conduct
\n
• Contribute to and support achievement of the Court's Strategic and Business Plans
\n
• Operate within the Court's policies and procedural guidelines, and
\n
• Support and contribute to the Court's Service Charter
\n
• $88,834 - $96,829 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation
\n

Key Responsibilities and Duties

\n

\n
• Day-to-day running of chambers including responding to enquiries.
\n
• Assist in the conduct of Court proceedings, ensuring the orderly conduct of matters and general Courtroom management.
\n
• Supervise the work of the deputy associate.
\n
• Assist the Judge to manage the docket by preparing and managing matters waiting for hearing.
\n
• Providing a high level of administrative support to the judicial officer to ensure the prompt distribution of orders and judgments.
\n
• Entering data accurately into the Court's case management and other information systems to reflect the workload of the judicial officer.
\n
• Maintain court related relationships with various external stakeholders.
\n
• Arrangements for circuit and relief sittings.
\n
• Contribute to organisational forums working for better working practices.
\n
• Other duties as required.
\n

Qualifications and experience

\n

Experience working in a legal environment is desirable, but not essential.

\n

Selection Criteria

\n

\n
• Strong communication (oral and written) and liaison skills and the ability to communicate with people of all levels.
\n
• Organisational and follow-through skills, including attention to detail, time-management skills, the ability to manage priorities and adapt to changing situations.
\n
• A high standard of ethical behaviour.
\n
• Tolerance, diligence and the ability to work as a member of a small team.
\n
• Demonstrated high-level keyboard skills and ability to use relevant software applications including Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.
\n

Eligibility

\n

Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:

\n

\n
• Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship.
\n
• Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment.
\n
• Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
\n

\n
