What You'll Do

We're looking for a DWDM Optical Network Engineer to be a key part of a highly visible and business-critical technology team at Viasat.

\n

The day-to-day

\n

You will be working on the design and architecture of the company's core network infrastructure to support our expanding global satellite fleet. You will also work on layer 1 through layer 3 network design, capacity planning and platform management as well as the design of routes for fiber-based networks including point to point, ring, and path diverse routing.

\n

What You'll Need

\n

\n
• Using the experience gained during your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering to design complex optical networks
\n
• Applying your 5 years relevant work experience with multi-vendor network equipment to architect complex DWDM systems
\n
• Creating written network implementation design plans (e.g. Method-of-Procedures MOPs)
\n
• Having hands-on experience with test equipment (BER Test, Optical Power Meter, OTDR, etc.) and troubleshooting system issues
\n
• Working to automate networks components and network management systems
\n
• Using your knowledge of coherent technology to build long-haul networks
\n

What Will Help You On The Job

\n

\n
• Experience with use of fiber network design, planning and mapping software tools such as Nokia, Adtran, (Infinera, Adva) 3-GIS, ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS
\n
• Understanding and debugging in any languages - Java, Python, Golang, or other modern programming languages using AI tools (i.e. Claude)
\n
• Experience with continuous integration & delivery and DevOps methodologies
\n
• Operational experience working with major carriers
\n
• An understanding of outside plant construction requirements with fiber experience preferred
\n
• IP and Ethernet networking experience
\n
