About the Role

La Porchetta Wagga Wagga is seeking an experienced Chef to join its kitchen team. The successful candidate will prepare and cook a range of menu items, coordinate food preparation during service and maintain consistent standards of food quality, taste, presentation and kitchen operations.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus Superannuation

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a range of Italian-style menu items in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards
• Cook pasta, risotto, chicken, seafood and other main dishes as required during restaurant service
• Monitor food preparation and cooking processes to maintain consistent quality, taste and presentation
• Inspect ingredients and food products to ensure freshness and appropriate quality
• Regulate cooking temperatures and operate ovens, grills, stovetops and other commercial kitchen equipment
• Season, portion and present dishes in accordance with restaurant standards
• Assist with menu planning, specials and estimating food requirements
• Monitor ingredient usage and minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation and portion control
• Ensure ingredients and prepared food are stored, handled and rotated appropriately
• Coordinate food preparation activities and guide junior kitchen staff during service
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, equipment and storage areas
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements

Candidate Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or a related discipline
• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen
• Experience preparing Italian-style cuisine will be highly regarded
• Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and commercial kitchen operations
• Ability to maintain consistent food quality, portioning and presentation during busy service periods
• Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling requirements
• Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment
