About Us:

The Top End Early Learning Centre Tiwi is located on the Royal Darwin Hospital Grounds. As a non-profit Community Based Centre the Centre is governed by a parent committee and Managed by a Director. Our purpose-built centre for long day care has five main rooms that are organised according to the ages and developmental stages of our children. Each room is managed by experienced, trained and qualified Educators.

1. Position: Room Leaders

Salary: $68,000 - $82,000

Job type: Full - time

About this role:

This position prepares, delivers and evaluates developmentally appropriate education and care programs for individual children or groups of children in care, whilst ensuring consistently high standards and compliance with the National Quality Framework are maintained. You will have to ensure that staffs who work in your room are working in accordance to policy and procedures, as well as this you will need to ensure they are included in planning and programming.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all members of the team are working harmoniously to provide the best care to the children.
  • Maintain an open, honest, and encouraging relationship with staff.
  • Be attentive not just to the needs of the kids but to the people working at the childcare, as well.
  • Follow the National Quality Framework

Job Description

  • Communicating and Delegating Tasks with Staff
  • Coordinate the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programs
  • Ensure all day-to-day activities are consistent with the requirements of the National Quality Framework
  • Accurate record keeping pertaining to any accident, incident, injury, illness or medication.
  • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate education and care programs based upon written records, and the observations of individual children
  • Supervise, support and guide all workers and students
  • Develop, implement and evaluate children's daily routines including arrivals, departures, eating, sleeping, cleaning up and meals as required
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development and parent meetings, as required
  • Facilitate the transition of new and existing families to and from the service
  • Maintenance of records pertaining to observations of individual children’s progress
  • Inform parents/guardians about the development progress of their children as appropriate
  • Monitor children’s wellbeing and safety throughout the day, and perform First Aid as required
  • Coordinate and direct junior workers engaged in the implementation of programs and activities in a group setting, and provide mentoring and coaching to assist others with their studies
  • Other duties as directed by the Director or Assistant Director

2. Position: Childcare Worker/Educator

Salary: $67,500 - $78,000

Job type: Full - time

About this role:

You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment the kids. Your duties include coming up with creative and educational activities, preparing and serving snacks to children and maintaining a clean environment for the children under the supervision of the room leader.

Job Responsibilities/Description:

  • Ensuring the children have good hygiene and changing nappies as necessary
  • Cleaning interactive areas throughout the day
  • Preparing meals and snacks for the children
  • Organizing activities and developing curriculum for older children
  • Developing a schedule for the children to maintain throughout the day
  • Keeping records of each child’s progress, interests and any problems that may occur
  • Maintaining contact with the children’s parents and contacting them in the case of an emergency
  • Follow the National Quality Framework

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Valid CPR and first-aid certifications
  • Caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with and caring for children
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills to converse with children, fellow professional caregivers and parents or guardians
  • Excellent patience and stamina for keeping up with the demands of children of all ages
  • Advanced multitasking and organizational skills to handle multiple children at a time
  • Relevant Certificate III qualification

3. Position: Cook/Chef

Salary: $67,500 - $75,000

Job Responsibilities/Description:

  • Provide a healthy, balanced, varied diet through a carefully planned menu for all children attending the Service, including meeting necessary dietary requirements
  • Manage food purchasing for the service in accordance with the approved budget and finances
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, educators, staff and management.
  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals that are culturally appropriate for children 0-6 years, in a timely manner that fits the Service's routines
  • Collaborate with the Director/ Nominated Supervisor, educators, parents and health professionals to plan and prepare meals for the children.
  • Provide for/or supplement alternative foods/beverages for children with allergies.
  • Ensure food handling standards and quality guidelines are adhered to at all times as per food handling guidelines
  • Ensure that all food is stored in compliance with Health Regulations.
  • Evaluate the menu on a regular basis in collaboration with children, families, educators, Director/Nominated Supervisor and health practitioners
  • Operate mixers, ovens, choppers, shredders, steamers, grills, grinders, steam kettles, fry kettles, and other food equipment in accordance with operating guidelines

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a cook within an Early Childhood Service or minimum 2 years' experience with food handling/service
  • Proven ability in all areas of cookery including menu planning, meeting nutritional guidelines, working within budgets
  • Understanding and working knowledge of WHS legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling guidelines
