Our client, a large Federal Government department, is seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Data Centre Design Lead to join a high-profile program responsible for the design, planning, governance and optimisation of critical ICT and data centre infrastructure environments.

\n

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior technical professional with extensive experience across data centre design, infrastructure architecture, capacity planning, network topology design, power and cooling infrastructure, technical governance and stakeholder management.

\n

The Role As the Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across complex ICT infrastructure environments and coordinate multidisciplinary teams responsible for the design, planning, documentation and optimisation of critical infrastructure assets.

\n

You will be responsible for developing architecture patterns, producing detailed infrastructure designs and guiding strategic decisions relating to data centre facilities, capacity management, availability planning and operational readiness.

\n

The role will also involve analysing infrastructure and operational data, producing executive-level reports and visualisations, and providing recommendations that support informed business and technical decisions.

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across complex ICT infrastructure initiatives.
\n
• Develop strategic infrastructure plans, models and roadmaps.
\n
• Design and document enterprise-scale infrastructure solutions.
\n
• Produce network topology diagrams and associated technical documentation.
\n
• Develop room, rack and physical infrastructure layouts.
\n
• Design power topology and capacity management solutions.
\n
• Assess and document data centre power and cooling requirements.
\n
• Develop rack configuration, security and access control designs.
\n
• Analyse operational and infrastructure data to identify trends, risks and optimisation opportunities.
\n
• Produce clear reporting, dashboards and visualisations for technical and executive stakeholders.
\n
• Investigate infrastructure issues and provide recommendations for remediation.
\n
• Support information management, governance and technical standards.
\n
• Prepare high-quality architecture and design documentation.
\n
• Contribute to knowledge transfer activities and mentoring of departmental staff.
\n
• Ensure all deliverables comply with established ICT governance frameworks, standards and policies.

Essential Skills & Experience

\n

\n
• Extensive experience as an Infrastructure Architect, Data Centre Engineer, Lead Infrastructure Engineer or similar senior technical role.
\n
• Demonstrated experience designing large-scale enterprise ICT infrastructure environments.
\n
• Strong background in data centre design and management.
\n
• Experience producing:\n

  • Network topology diagrams
  \n
  • Data centre layouts
  \n
  • Rack elevation drawings
  \n
  • Power topology designs
  \n
  • Capacity planning documentation
  \n
\n
• Proven experience in availability, capacity and problem management.
\n
• Strong understanding of infrastructure operations, resilience and high-availability design.
\n
• Experience with infrastructure reporting, analytics and visualisation tools.
\n
• Experience developing technical documentation, standards and governance artefacts.
\n
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and coordinate competing priorities.
\n
• Experience working within structured project delivery and governance environments.
\n
• Scripting and automation experience using tools such as PowerShell, Python or similar.
\n

Desirable Experience

• Previous Federal Government experience.
\n
• Experience working within secure ICT environments.
\n
• Knowledge of data centre facilities management, infrastructure capacity planning and environmental considerations.
\n
• Experience delivering outcomes within ITIL and enterprise architecture frameworks.
\n
• Experience recording and managing technical resource effort and delivery metrics.
\n
• Strong customer service and stakeholder management capability.
