About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and passionate radio newsreader to join our Nova Entertainment/Smooth FM newsroom in a casual capacity, with opportunities to work across both brands and support network-wide coverage.

We welcome applications from candidates based in Melbourne who can identify and deliver stories that resonate with local audiences, while contributing to national news coverage when required.

You will work independently but be fully supported by a team of experienced newsreaders and journalists across the national network to ensure news content is current, accurate and consistent.

Working Arrangements:

Our casual newsreaders are required to cover leave and be available during public holidays and weekends (depending on your availability). You will work closely with our on-air teams as well as the National Newsroom Operations Manager, Producers and Announcers to ensure on air news content is current, accurate and consistent with brand style.

As a casual you will still have the responsibility for developing, writing and editing on air news bulletins as well as bulletins for our news podcast offering “The Update”. You’ll have to maintain the smooth running of news broadcasts by ensuring content is compliant with all broadcast codes of conduct.

About You

To be successful our super star candidate will:

• Experience in a regional or metro radio newsroom (essential)
• Passion for news and current affairs with a news presenting voice to suit the Nova brand
• Strong understanding of local, national and international news affecting the community
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Accuracy and excellent attention to detail
• Competent in broadcast systems
• Effective time management and deadline management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• NewsBoss and Zetta experience preferred
