CPP has the largest in-house design and engineering team of any contractor in Australia, with over 200 specialists across Electrical Primary and Secondary, Civil, Structural, and SCADA disciplines. We provide end-to-end engineering solutions for high-voltage infrastructure, including nationally significant transmission projects, HV substations, wind farms and battery storage systems that drive Australia's renewable energy transition.

The Opportunity

\n

Newly created Team Lead - Secondary Design position to join our growing NSW Engineering team. Reporting to the Manager - Secondary Design, this role has been specifically designed for experienced technical specialists who want to broaden their leadership influence while staying immersed in real engineering work. Unlike traditional people management positions, this role remains highly technical, with the majority of your time focused on engineering, design leadership and project delivery rather than administration.

\n

You'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of secondary design projects, including substations, renewable energy infrastructure, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and data centre developments. Working closely with engineers, designers, project teams and key stakeholders, you'll guide technical outcomes, support quality assurance, mentor developing talent and help shape best practice across the broader engineering function.

\n

A major focus of the role is supporting the development of engineers and graduates through mentoring, coaching and regular engagement. You'll play a key role in succession planning, capability uplift and team growth while helping establish a sustainable leadership structure within one of CPP's largest engineering teams.

\n

This is a rare opportunity for a Senior or Principal-level secondary design professional looking to influence both technical outcomes and people development without stepping away from the engineering work they enjoy most.

About You

\n

Desired Skills and Experience

You are a technically credible secondary design professional who enjoys helping others succeed. You may already lead people formally, or you may be a highly experienced Senior or Principal designer ready to step into your first dedicated team leadership role. Either way, you will bring sound judgement, an approachable style and the confidence to guide technical work while building strong relationships.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Possess

\n

\n
• Extensive experience in secondary design, protection, control, SCADA or related high-voltage infrastructure disciplines
\n
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor or develop technical professionals, whether formally or informally
\n
• Strong experience delivering secondary design solutions across substations, transmission, distribution or renewable energy projects
\n
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills
\n
• Ability to work from the NSW office regularly and provide visible leadership to the team
\n
• A collaborative leadership style with a genuine passion for mentoring and developing others
\n
