The difference you'll make:

The Head of Finance will make the business's financial reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory obligations something the CFO and CEO can rely on without question, giving the business a solid foundation for decision-making and governance. Leading a team of four (Financial Controller and three offshore accountants), plus oversight of payroll and accounts payable, this role will bring structure and rigor to finance operations, freeing the CFO and CEO to focus on strategy while trusting the numbers underneath it.

What you’ll do:

Financial Reporting & Board Governance

• Own the month end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements and consolidation of the group companies and SPVs.
• Oversee preparation of management and board reporting, covering financial performance, forecasts, and key risks. Ensure inputs are accurate, variances explained and commentary insightful and relevant.
• Own annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and business planning cycles. Working closely with FP&A, ensuring variances are identified, communicated and actions taken.
• Continuously improve close timelines and reporting quality.

Audit

• Manage the annual external audit process end to end, including statutory financial statements.
• Act as primary liaison with auditors, ensuring findings are addressed and remediated.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and controls throughout the year.

Tax

• Manage direct tax compliance and reporting (income tax, corporate tax obligations).
• Manage indirect tax compliance (GST, FBT, and other applicable indirect taxes).
• Ensure tax positions are accurate, lodged on time, and appropriately documented.
• Own the annual R&D tax incentive submission, ensuring timely and accurate lodgement.
• Ensure tax compliance and reporting obligations are met across all Group companies, with all entities properly considered and consolidated.
• Manage tax compliance and reporting requirements for the Employee Share Scheme (ESS).

Regulatory Reporting

• Own regulatory reporting obligations to APRA and ASIC.
• Monitor regulatory changes affecting reporting requirements and update processes accordingly.
• Ensure reporting is accurate, complete, and lodged within required timeframes.

Controls & Governance

• Ensure finance processes and controls are IPO ready.
• Embed control design (segregation of duties, approval points, audit trail) into every finance workflow.
• Maintain SOX-style control documentation so every number can be evidenced under audit and due diligence.
• Ensure balance sheet integrity through robust reconciliation controls across the business.
• Partner with the Finance Operations and Automation Lead on automating and controlling upstream transactional processes (AP, AR, bank reconciliation, payroll, month-end), ensuring audit-readiness is built in from design.

Payroll, Sales Commission & Broker Payments

• Own and oversee sales commission payments and control processes for the 40+ person GTM team.
• Own broker and aggregator payments and accruals for the network of 18,000+ brokers.
• Ensure commission and broker payment calculations are accurate, controlled, and properly accrued.
• Ensure the company maintains an RCTI compliant process for aggregator payments.

Team

• Manage and develop a team of three: Financial Controller and 3 offshore accountants.
• Oversee payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
• Oversee accounts payable, ensuring supplier payments and controls are managed effectively.
• Build team capability, set clear objectives, and support career development

Process Improvement & Automation

• Identify and drive process improvement opportunities across the finance function
• Lead adoption of automation and AI tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Investigate new tools and current processes to facilitate reporting by legal entity, product, and project, improving decision making and optimising performance.
• Champion best practice financial processes and controls as the business scales.

What we are looking for:

• CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent).
• 10+ years’ experience in finance leadership roles, ideally within lending, banking, or financial services.
• Working knowledge of APRA and ASIC regulatory reporting requirements.
• Experience managing external audits and statutory reporting.
• Solid understanding of direct and indirect tax compliance in Australia.
• Experience leading teams, including offshore/outsourced resources.
• Strong process improvement mindset, with experience adopting automation or AI tools in finance operations.
• Experience building or operating to SOX-style control standards, ideally in an organisation preparing for IPO or listed.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience reporting to executive management.
