Civil Operator / All Rounder

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity for multiple experienced Civil Operator All Rounders to join our team and play a key role in delivering civil construction and maintenance works across Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) assets throughout metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

The role involves working on a range of critical road and intelligent transport infrastructure, including traffic signals, roadway lighting, electronic speed signs, CCTV, Variable Message Signs (VMS), vehicle detection systems, emergency telephones and optical fibre communications networks.

Projects will include signalised intersection upgrades, electrical and street lighting rehabilitation, switchboard works and other civil infrastructure projects.

Key Accountabilities

• Operate excavators up to 7 tonnes to undertake detailed excavation works in and around live public utilities.
• Undertake civil construction activities within existing operational electrical infrastructure and brownfield environments.
• Read and interpret Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) plans and utility service drawings.
• Undertake civil works associated with electrical infrastructure installations, including pit and pipe installations.
• Assist Traffic System Technicians, Traffic Signal Technicians and Electricians with installation, maintenance and rehabilitation activities as required.
• Complete excavation, trenching, backfilling, reinstatement and associated civil works to a high standard.
• Work safely around live services and existing public infrastructure, following approved procedures and site controls.
• Ensure all works are completed in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, environmental controls and workplace health and safety procedures.
• Work collaboratively with project teams and other trades to ensure works are delivered efficiently and to program.
• Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support the successful delivery of contracted services.

About You

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move up to 25 kg, with assistance or handling equipment for heavier items.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically capable of walking, bending, stooping, climbing and stretching.
• Comfortable working at heights of up to 20 metres from platform or bucket trucks.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Current MR (Medium Rigid) driver's licence.
• Relevant Excavator Operation qualifications.
• Demonstrated experience operating mini excavators on brownfield construction sites.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret DBYD (Before You Dig Australia) drawings.
• Willingness to work both in the excavator and outside the machine as required.
• Basic Worksite Traffic Management qualification (this can be facilitated as part of the onboarding process).
• A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively as part of a team.

Highly Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience working on Main Roads electrical and communications assets.
• Basic Rigging and Work at Heights qualifications.
• Vehicle Mounted Crane (VMC) ticket.
• Forklift licence/ticket.
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket.
