Trauma Clinical Nurse Coordinator-Acute Surgical Unit

As the Trauma Clinical Nurse Coordinator , you will provide advanced clinical leadership and coordination for major trauma and acute surgical patients across the care continuum. Working closely with the Emergency Department, Operating Theatres, inpatient wards, medical specialists, allied health teams, and external agencies, you will help support the patient care journey from admission through to discharge and rehabilitation referral.

The role will play a key leadership function in trauma governance, quality improvement, education, data management, and multidisciplinary collaboration, while contributing to AWH's journey towards Trauma Service Verification and the ongoing delivery of excellence in trauma care across the organisation.

You will:

• Coordinate the care of major trauma and acute surgical patients from admission to discharge.
• Lead multidisciplinary collaboration to optimise patient outcomes.
• Participate in trauma activations and support complex clinical decision-making.
• Drive quality improvement, audit, and trauma governance initiatives.
• Contribute to trauma registry reporting and data collection.
• Deliver education, mentoring, and support to nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to independently problem-solve and implement effective solutions in dynamic and unpredictable clinical situations.

About You

You will have:

• Mandatory
  1. Tertiary qualification as a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
  2. Minimum of five years' post-registration clinical experience in a public health service, with demonstrated expertise in trauma, emergency, or acute surgical nursing.
  3. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and problem-solving skills in a complex, high-acuity environment.
• Desirable
  1. Postgraduate qualifications in trauma, critical care, emergency nursing, or a related field.
  2. Experience in program development, quality improvement, and/or clinical research.
  3. Advanced skills in clinical leadership, communication, data interpretation, and audit.
  4. Demonstrated experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and complex clinical care pathways.
  5. Familiarity with Victorian State Trauma Registry data collection and submission requirements.
