Director of Engineering APAC

Gentrack is growing, and our APAC engineering organisation is evolving with it.

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering APAC who wants to do more than lead an established function. This is an opportunity to shape how engineering operates across the region — strengthening our leadership capability, improving delivery and quality, embracing AI-enabled ways of working, and building an organisation ready to scale.

You’ll inherit talented teams and experienced engineering leaders. There’s also plenty to do. We’re looking for someone who enjoys that combination: someone who can challenge the way things are done, simplify where complexity has crept in, and bring people with them as we build a stronger, more effective engineering organisation.

This is a significant leadership role reporting to the VP of Engineering APAC, with influence across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and India.

About the Opportunity

As Director of Engineering APAC, you’ll provide regional leadership across our Delivery Engineering organisation, with direct responsibility for Engineering Managers and our Enablement team of technical experts.

Working closely with another Director of Engineering, you’ll share responsibility across Data, Integration, Operations, BAU and Projects.

Your focus will be on creating the conditions for engineering teams and leaders to do their best work — with clear priorities, strong leadership, predictable delivery, high engineering standards and a culture of continuous improvement.

You’ll connect our APAC priorities with Gentrack’s broader global engineering strategy and play an important role in shaping what our engineering organisation needs to look like for its next stage of growth.

Your Key Responsibilities

Lead engineering across APAC

• Translate engineering strategy into clear priorities, plans and measurable outcomes.
• Provide visible leadership across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and India.
• Represent APAC Engineering in regional and global forums.
• Build strong relationships across Product, Program Delivery, Service Delivery, Customer and Finance.

Develop leaders and teams

• Lead, coach and develop Engineering Managers and Enablement Team Leads.
• Build a culture of trust, accountability, inclusion and continuous feedback.
• Strengthen succession planning, leadership development and workforce capability.
• Attract, develop and retain exceptional engineering talent.

Make engineering easier and more effective

• Set the direction for our APAC Enablement function.
• Improve engineering practices, tooling, onboarding, knowledge sharing, quality and developer experience.
• Remove friction and unnecessary complexity.
• Encourage practical, reusable approaches that improve engineering effectiveness at scale.

Lift delivery and engineering performance

• Build greater predictability into planning and delivery.
• Use meaningful data and engineering metrics to identify problems and drive improvement.
• Strengthen quality, reliability, security and operational practices.
• Balance customer commitments with technical health, sustainable capacity and long-term capability.

Shape the organisation

• Evolve team structures, leadership spans and organisational design as our needs change.
• Build capability plans for our current and future technical and leadership requirements.
• Support collaboration and mobility across APAC while recognising local cultures and ways of working.
• Make thoughtful workforce and investment decisions within agreed budgets and governance.

Help lead our AI-enabled future

AI is changing how software is built, and we want Gentrack to be at the forefront of that change.

You’ll help lead the adoption of AI-enabled software development across APAC, working with engineering leaders to embed AI thoughtfully into the software development lifecycle, improve productivity and quality, and identify opportunities where automation can make a meaningful difference.

We’re looking for someone who can create space for experimentation while maintaining the engineering standards, governance and responsible practices that matter.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be a guru or have every answer. We’re looking for someone who is curious, pragmatic and comfortable working things out with others.

You’ll bring:

• Significant experience leading multi-team engineering organisations, including Engineering Managers.
• A strong track record in people leadership, coaching, organisation design and change.
• Experience building or transforming engineering organisations across multiple locations.
• Experience delivering complex enterprise software in customer-facing environments.
• A track record of improving delivery predictability, engineering quality, productivity and organisational effectiveness.
• The technical depth to engage credibly with senior engineers and architects, without needing to be the person writing the code.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance customer outcomes, technical health, people capability and investment.
• Experience using engineering data and metrics to understand problems and improve outcomes.
• A genuine interest in AI-enabled software development and the implications for engineering teams and organisations.
• A passion for developing people, particularly Engineering Managers and emerging leaders.
• The confidence to challenge established thinking — combined with the empathy and influence to bring people with you.
• Experience working across APAC cultures and time zones would be valuable.
