About the role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Barista to join our team at Cafe Cornucopia in Balmain East on a part-time basis. As a Barista, you will be the face of our café, responsible for creating beautifully crafted beverages and delivering exceptional customer experiences. This role is integral to our daily operations and directly impacts the satisfaction and loyalty of our valued customers. You will work in a fast-paced environment, managing the espresso machine, preparing specialty drinks, and maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and presentation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages, including espresso-based drinks, filter coffee, and specialty beverages, to the highest standards
• Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other café equipment in optimal working condition
• Take customer orders accurately and provide knowledgeable recommendations about our coffee and beverage offerings
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the bar area, including regular cleaning of equipment and work surfaces
• Work efficiently during peak service times whilst maintaining quality and attention to detail
• Handle cash and card transactions accurately and securely
• Provide friendly, professional customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere for all customers
• Assist with basic food preparation and stock management as required
• Follow food safety and hygiene protocols at all times
• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth café operations

What we’re looking for

• Barista qualification or relevant formal training in coffee preparation and café operations
• Proficiency in operating espresso machines and other café equipment
• Strong knowledge of coffee varieties, brewing methods, and beverage preparation techniques
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse customers
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple orders simultaneously
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of presentation and quality
• Food safety and hygiene awareness and certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude
• Experience in a café or hospitality environment preferred
• Flexibility to work part-time hours including mornings, afternoons, and occasional weekends
