About the role

As Lead Actuary, you will play a key role in shaping the performance, profitability, and sustainability of Redion Australia's travel insurance portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Insurance Officer, you will lead the actuarial function across reserving, capital management, reinsurance, regulatory reporting, and portfolio performance, providing trusted advice to senior leaders and influencing strategic business decisions.

Partnering closely with teams across Commercial, Finance, Product, Claims, and Risk, you will translate actuarial insights into actions that drive portfolio performance, strengthen governance, and support sustainable growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded actuary who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to influence outcomes at an executive level.

What the role looks like

• Lead the actuarial reserving process, ensuring accurate liability valuations and providing insights into claims trends, portfolio performance, and emerging risks.
• Own actuarial input into APRA reporting, capital monitoring, solvency management, and Board-level reporting, ensuring robust governance and regulatory compliance.
• Support the design, evaluation, and performance monitoring of reinsurance arrangements to optimise portfolio protection and financial outcomes.
• Partner with Commercial, Finance, Product, Claims, and Risk teams to identify performance drivers and influence underwriting, pricing, and product strategies.
• Provide actuarial expertise to support business planning, forecasting, strategic initiatives, and new growth opportunities.
• Act as the organisation's actuarial subject matter expert, building strong relationships with insurers, reinsurers, auditors, and regulators.
• Drive actuarial governance, risk management, and continuous improvement, ensuring strong controls and adherence to professional and regulatory standards.

What you’ll bring

• Fellow of the Actuaries Institute with extensive actuarial experience within the general insurance sector.
• Strong expertise in reserving, liability valuation, and insurance portfolio performance analysis.
• Demonstrated experience delivering APRA regulatory reporting, capital management analysis, and governance requirements.
• Sound understanding of reinsurance structures, treaty performance, renewals, and recovery management.
• Commercially minded with the ability to translate complex actuarial insights into clear business recommendations and strategic decisions.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using actuarial modelling and data tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, or R.
• Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence executives, insurers, reinsurers, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
