Lyell McEwin Hospital's Intensive Care Unit is a busy, respected critical care environment serving Adelaide's northern communities. The position is offered on a short-term contract basis through to 31 December 2027.

Your Role in the Unit

As Associate Nurse Unit Manager, you'll work alongside the NUM to keep the ICU running safely and effectively across your rostered shifts. Your day-to-day will span:

• Coordinating shift-level operations, bed management, and patient flow within the ICU
• Providing clinical leadership and support to nursing staff, students, and new team members
• Contributing to quality improvement activities, audits, and clinical governance processes
• Maintaining your own high standard of direct patient care in a complex critical care environment

What You'll Bring

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• Substantial ICU or critical care nursing experience at a tertiary or metropolitan level
• Demonstrated ability to lead a clinical team across a shift, including escalation and resource management
• Sound understanding of SA Health policies, standards, and patient safety frameworks
• Effective communication skills with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families
• Commitment to culturally safe care that reflects the diverse communities NALHN serves

To be eligible for this position, you must be Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:

NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.

Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.

Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.

Mental Health Services – adult and older persons mental health services and statewide forensic mental health services, across hospital and community settings.

Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Primary Health Care Services – provides culturally responsive primary healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in-hospital and across four community sites.

Primary Health Care Services – including GP Plus sites at Elizabeth, Modbury and Gilles Plains.
