About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage a diverse portfolio of SME clients across our Melbourne and Shepparton offices. This role will involve handling complex tax and accounting matters, providing strategic advice to business owners and working closely with clients to support their financial success.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with clients and partners, take ownership of their portfolio and progress toward a leadership position within the firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage compliance: Prepare and review financial statements, income tax returns, business activity statements and SMSF accounts.
• Provide strategic advice: Deliver tax planning, business structuring and financial advice to SME clients and business owners.
• Handle complex matters: Apply Australian tax legislation relating to Division 7A, capital gains tax, trusts and business structures.
• Manage client relationships: Act as a trusted point of contact for client queries and ongoing accounting needs.
• Review and develop work: Review compliance work prepared by junior accountants and ensure accuracy and quality.
• Mentor team members: Support and guide junior staff in their technical development and professional growth.
• Work collaboratively: Partner with directors and colleagues to deliver tailored accounting and advisory solutions.

What We’re Looking For

• Qualifications: Current CA or CPA qualification is essential.
• Experience: 7-10 years’ experience in an Australian public practice accounting environment.
• SME expertise: Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of small to medium-sized business clients.
• Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of Australian taxation, compliance requirements and business structures.
• Advisory capability: Ability to provide practical, commercially focused advice to clients.
• Technology skills: Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero and MYOB.
• Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and client-focused approach.
• Leadership potential: A willingness to mentor others and take on increasing responsibility within the firm.
