About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate or Senior Associate to join our highly regarded Brisbane Insurance Team, working within our fast growing general liability practice under Patrick Cavanagh, Partner. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically strong lawyer who enjoys complex insurance work and is looking to take the next step in a supportive and high performing environment.
You will act for domestic and international insurers across a broad range of disputes. The role offers the autonomy to run your own matters while working closely with senior practitioners recognised as leaders in the field.
Key responsibilities include advising on liability and quantum, indemnity issues, and defence strategies primarily in relation to claims for damages for personal injury, ensuring advice is commercially focused and aligned with client expectations as well as attendance at settlement conference, mediations and court (with and without counsel). You will manage a varied file load, requiring strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively. Building a deep understanding of client operations and nurturing long‑term client relationships will be essential. You will also contribute to the development of junior lawyers through mentoring and knowledge‑sharing.
This position suits a proactive, solutions‑focused lawyer committed to delivering exceptional service to insurer clients.
The successful candidate:

• 3+ years' PQE with experience in defendant general liability matters
• Previous exposure to business development and a natural ability to build strong client relationships
• Ability to manage client expectations and run matters autonomously
• Interested in establishing a long-term successful career with Colin Biggers & Paisley
• Ability to relate to people at all levels and effectively work in a team
• A strong focus on turnaround time
• Commercial acumen
• Practical and client focused problem solving skills
• A strong, plain language communication style
