POSITION SUMMARY

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Parliamentary Education Office is seeking a customer-focused, professional and organized individual for the regular full-time position of Gift Shop Assistant.

Reporting to the Gift Shop Coordinator, the Gift Shop Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Gift Shop by assisting with purchasing, sales, customer service, merchandising, and inventory management. The role also supports the delivery of the MLA Educational Resources program. In the absence of the Gift Shop Coordinator, the incumbent assumes responsibility for Gift Shop operations and the administration of MLA Educational Resources, ensuring the effective and continuous delivery of services, including during weekends in the summer months.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

• Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent) and a minimum of one year of retail and customer service experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of retail operations, including point-of-sale (POS) transactions, inventory management, visual merchandising, and maintaining store standards.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

• Post-secondary education in business, retail management, hospitality, marketing, communications, or a related field.
• Three or more years of retail and customer service experience.
