We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the growing team at SL³.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a full-time position based in Sydney, NSW.

You will take a lead role in the design and delivery of mechanical building services across a diverse range of projects, applying your technical expertise and industry experience from concept design through documentation and construction.

You will work directly with clients and project teams, provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and help ensure our designs achieve the right balance of performance, compliance, sustainability, buildability and value.

As a senior member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of SL³'s technical standards, design methodologies and project delivery processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to construction.
• Develop practical, technically robust and coordinated engineering solutions.
• Prepare and review calculations, specifications, reports, drawings and other technical documentation.
• Coordinate mechanical services with architectural, structural and other building services disciplines.
• Manage project deliverables, programmes and engineering resources.
• Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Identify and resolve technical and coordination issues throughout the design and construction process.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Support quality assurance and technical review processes.
• Maintain a strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards, the NCC and evolving industry requirements.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and growth of SL³.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• A minimum of 8 years' relevant professional experience in mechanical building services engineering, including substantial experience within the Australian consulting engineering industry.
• Strong technical capability in the design and delivery of HVAC and associated mechanical building services from concept design through to construction.
• A sound working knowledge of the NCC, Australian Standards and relevant building services codes and regulations.
• Demonstrated project management and coordination capabilities, including programme management, resource planning, risk management and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience working directly with clients, architects, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• The ability to take ownership of projects and lead the mechanical services design and delivery process.
• A hands-on and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively within a growing consultancy where senior engineers remain actively involved in project design and delivery.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability and willingness to provide technical guidance and mentor junior engineers.
• Chartered status, or eligibility and willingness to work towards Chartered status, is highly regarded.
• Australian residency or unrestricted working rights in Australia.
