We are expanding our thriving Dispute Resolution practice and we need a talented and driven 2-4 PQE lawyer to join our Debt Recovery team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious lawyer looking to accelerate their career with hands‑on work, genuine responsibility, and direct client interaction from day one.

This is an exciting opportunity for a debt recovery lawyer to work directly with a diverse client base ranging from SMEs to large corporate entities, including lenders, across a broad range of debt recovery matters, effectively acting as an extension of their internal collections efforts, while also taking on early leadership responsibility by overseeing a team of graduates and paralegals, working closely with and reporting to Practice Leaders, and playing a key role in managing and building strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities \n

\n
• Sourcing information for and preparing legal documents including Letters of Demand, Statements of Claim and enforcement documents such as bankruptcy applications and winding up applications.
\n
• Providing legal advice and exceptional customer service to clients throughout the debt recovery process.
\n
• Liaising with Process Servers and other third party agencies.
\n
• Supervising a team of law graduates and paralegals, including reviewing their work product.
\n
• Conducting internal conflict checks.
\n
• Opening and maintaining digital files in our custom built systems.
\n
• Managing and prioritising a caseload to meet administrative and procedural deadlines.
\n
• Ensuring all work is carried out in a timely and effective manner.
\n
• Identifying opportunities for, and contributing to, system and process improvements.
\n

The Ideal Candidate \n

\n
• Admitted to practise law in Australia, with current unrestricted practising certificate
\n
• 2-4 years of experience working in commercial debt recovery.
\n
• Strong working knowledge of debt recovery processes, including statutory demands, letters of demand, default judgments, garnishee orders, and enforcement proceedings
\n
• Experience managing a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines
\n
• Confidence appearing in court or before tribunals for interlocutory and enforcement matters
\n
• Strong written and verbal communication, drafting, and negotiation skills
\n
• Ability to advise clients directly on strategy, risk, and commercial outcomes
\n
• Strong client relationship management skills
\n
• High attention to detail and strong file management and time-recording discipline
\n
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a broader team environment
\n
