Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

About the Role

The Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) List is a specialist court list designed to meet the needs of accused persons who have a mental illness and/or a cognitive impairment.

Registrars of the Magistrates' Court, including the ARC List Co-ordinator, perform a wide range of administrative tasks throughout the Court's registries in Victoria. These may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, client-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, and back-of-office administrative responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Co-ordinate and supervise the sitting of the ARC List.
• Assess case workloads, listing practices and procedures within the ARC List, identifying and implementing practice improvements that will enhance the consistency of practice in the ARC List.
• Maintain and facilitate key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the judiciary, legal profession, police, external organisations and agencies, and other court users that interface with the Court.
• Contribute to, and participate in, the multidisciplinary ARC List team.
• Prepare and submit appropriate reports, briefs and correspondence or communication intended for a range of audiences including senior managers, magistrates, ARC List team, ARC participants, and external community groups.

About You

You must have completed the MCV Trainee Court Registrar Program and have broad experience across Jurisdictions.

You are a resilient leader with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You thrive in a complex and fast-paced environment.

You will bring:

• Strong leadership and people management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of court protocols, procedures, and legislative requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong judgement, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
• The ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high quality outcomes.
• Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) or equivalent.
