Underwriting Manager Brooklyn Property – Northern Region

Manages all aspects of the underwriting operations in accordance with corporate and divisional guidelines. This includes but is not limited to portfolio profitability, account pricing, portfolio rate change, renewal retention, marketing, new business production, development of staff and broker and client management. The role holder will manage all staff and an underwriting territory that includes business product in several locations.

What you’ll be DOING

What will your essential responsibilities include?

• Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metricsincluding verification of appropriate risk premium calculations to ensure profitability.
• Effective relationship management with clients and broker partners initiating opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
• Mange insured and producer relationships across large geographical territory.
• Maintain visibility in the market by effectively marketing to insureds and brokers.
• Ensuring client satisfaction as it relates to fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
• Leadership responsibilities - Lead and develop a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.
• Operational responsibilities - Oversight on submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports. Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards. Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
• Continuous improvement.

You will report to the National Underwriting Manager – Property.

What you will BRING

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred and equivalent experience, policy development and broker management.
• Knowledge of functionality of systemsincluding strong technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
• Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovations.
• Ability to lead in accordance with AXA XL core values and culture.
• Leadership - Guide and influence others into a direction or decision that empowers them. Guides the strategic vison of a team and organization.
• Marketing - Effectively plan for sales and business development. Integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth over a defined period.
• Negotiation/Sales - Plan, structure and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
• Interpersonal Savvy –Build excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients & colleagues with the intention of improving personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
• Industry Knowledge -Understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
• Strategy/Planning - Make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results. Has knowledge of financial targets and levers in order to deliver on departmental business plan.
• Analytical Skills - Visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze and solve complex problems in order to make key business decisions.
