BuiltSTRONG Recruitment is partnering with one of Melbourne's most established and respected commercial builders to appoint a Services Manager to take ownership of the building services function across the Victorian business.

With almost a century of construction experience, our client is a long-established, family-owned commercial builder with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex, high-quality projects across Melbourne. Their portfolio spans education, government, community, cultural, heritage and institutional construction, including a number of prestigious and technically challenging projects.

This is a senior appointment within the business and an opportunity for an experienced building services professional to lead the services function across multiple projects, working closely with the construction teams, consultants, subcontractors and senior management.

The Opportunity

Rather than being embedded on one individual project, you will have oversight of building services across the wider project portfolio, becoming the internal authority for all things MEP and building services.

You’ll work across projects from the early design and pre‑construction stages through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover, helping project teams identify issues early and ensuring services are properly coordinated throughout delivery.

Our client is particularly interested in speaking with people currently working within building services consultancies at Associate level or above who are looking to take their technical and design expertise into a commercial construction environment.

This could be an excellent opportunity to move away from purely consultancy‑based delivery and become much closer to the commercial, construction and delivery side of major projects.

Your Responsibilities

As Services Manager, you will:

• Take overall responsibility for building services across the company's Victorian project portfolio
• Provide technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire and associated building services
• Support project teams from pre‑construction and design development through to completion
• Lead design reviews and identify coordination, constructability and services risks
• Manage and challenge external services consultants
• Assist with services subcontractor procurement and scope reviews
• Work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Design Managers and site teams
• Drive services coordination between architectural, structural and MEP disciplines
• Support teams through installation, commissioning and final handover
• Identify potential services issues before they become costly construction problems
• Help develop and improve the company's broader approach to building services delivery

About You

There are several backgrounds that could suit the position, but our client's preference is for someone with a strong building services consultancy background who understands the design process at a high level.

Ideally, you will have:

• Experience at Associate, Associate Director or similar level within a recognised building services or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy
• Strong technical knowledge across building services and MEP disciplines
• Experience working on significant commercial construction projects
• Excellent understanding of design management, coordination and constructability
• The confidence to challenge consultants, subcontractors and project stakeholders where required
• Strong client‑facing and stakeholder‑management skills
• Commercial awareness and an interest in becoming closer to project delivery
• The ability to operate across multiple projects and provide leadership to different project teams

Previous experience working directly for a commercial builder would be advantageous, but is not essential. For the right consultancy professional, our client is prepared to support the transition into the construction environment.
