Aruna Psychology is an established psychology clinic located in the inner north of Melbourne. Our clinic consists of a team of friendly, dedicated, and compassionate psychologists who offer evidence-based psychological treatment to individuals across the lifespan. We are looking for another psychologist to join our warm and supportive team for two days per week to meet the growing demand for mental health services in our local community.

About Aruna:

Aruna Psychology is a progressive clinic that is directed by a senior clinical psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist who both work in public mental health and are clinical academics. This means that the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based treatment and professional development is at the core of our practice. We have strong, collaborative relationships with local referral sources that have endured over many years (e.g., several medical clinics and third-party referrers). These relationships result in a consistent number of referrals for clients needing psychological support for a diverse range of clinical issues.

We pride ourselves on our supportive and professional team environment that can facilitate your clinical and personal development. We understand that private practice is highly rewarding but can also be very autonomous and isolating given the large client focus. Therefore, we make concerted efforts to prioritise social connectedness within our team through regular individual supervision, frequent peer consultation, and several team events and check-ins.

We have full-time administration and intake support so that our clinical team can focus on working with their clients. Our directors screen all our referrals before they are allocated to ensure that clients are suitable for private practice and their presenting concerns match the strengths and interests of our psychologists. We operate flexibly and are guided by you in relation to your hours of work, preferred modes of treatment delivery (e.g., face-to-face or tele-health), and requirements for leave. Our therapy dog, Norbert, also pops in occasionally to provide support to our psychologists and clients.

Aruna Psychology is discretely located in Westgarth, within the suburb of Northcote, and is close to several beautiful cafes and parks. Our practice is easily accessible by car with ample all-day parking as well as public transport.

Dr Elise Sloan is a senior clinical psychologist and the clinical director at Aruna Psychology. She also works within the Psychological Trauma Service at The Alfred, where she provides long term psychotherapy to individuals with significant trauma and/or personality disorders, provides secondary consultation to the broader community mental heath service in working with high risk clients, trains clinicians in models of trauma informed psychological intervention, and mentors early-to-mid career psychologists. Elise is a board-approved clinical psychology supervisor. She has a special interest in working with individuals that have experienced complex trauma and dissociation and has a passion for supporting clinicians who wish to develop their skills in this field. Elise draws on a range of evidence-based treatment modalities to safely support her clients, with a particular focus on EMDR, Schema Therapy and parts based approaches. Elise is also an accredited EMDR practitioner with the EMDRAA.

Dr Shayden Bryce is a senior clinical neuropsychologist and director at Aruna Psychology. He has extensive experience providing comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and is passionate about supporting clinicians who are working with clients experiencing cognitive difficulties or those wanting to explore neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., ADHD, ASD, etc.). Shayden is also a board-approved supervisor and maintains clinical roles at Aruna and The Alfred as well as research roles at Orygen and the University of Melbourne. He is a member of the APS, fellow of the CCN, and member of AADPA. In addition to his clinical work, Shayden is also the practice manager at Aruna and works very closely with administrative staff to make sure that the practice runs smoothly.

Regular individual clinical supervision by a board-approved supervisor (with more hands-on support initially if you’re new to private practice).

Access to secondary consultation and clinical support at all times from our experienced directors who are senior clinical and neuropsychologists.

Referrals that are screened at intake by the clinical director so that clients are appropriately allocated to you based on your developmental level and clinical interests.

Exceptional full-time administrative support that includes assistance with client bookings, diary management, tracking treatment plans, and other general duties (e.g., managing billing issues and cancellation fees), so that you can focus on clinical work.

Flexibility to manage your case load in a way that works for you (e.g., telehealth options, after-hours, weekends, etc.).

Access to support from Norbert, our therapy dog, who attends the clinic regularly and offers exceptional pats and cuddles from time to time.

We would love to chat with people who:

Have general psychology registration with AHPRA, with or without clinical psychology endorsement. Those who are working towards clinical endorsement are encouraged to apply as we happily co-supervise people completing their registrar program.

Can competently deliver a range of evidence-based psychological interventions. Individuals with a particular interest in working with trauma are strongly encouraged to apply.

Have a demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Display excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., letters, notes, etc.).

Are motivated to learn and develop their clinical skills.

Have experience in developing biopsychosocial formulations to guide treatment.

Recent graduates with general registration are welcome to apply. We provide a supportive environment for established clinicians as well as those who are getting started in private practice. We are not able to consider people who are provisionally registered at this time.

The successful applicant will be required to provide evidence of registration with AHPRA, obtain Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance, and have a valid Working with Children's Check/Police Check. The successful applicant must also have the right to work in Australia as a registered psychologist and show evidence of (or demonstrate their eligibility for) a Medicare Provider Number to provide psychological services under the Better Access initiative.
