About the role

Our Deadly Choices Program Officers deliver school and community-based health education, promotion, and prevention activities. A Deadly Choice is a great choice, and you will work with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Communities to promote healthy choices for themselves and their family. Based at Coomera, but with some work at other sites, this is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work for events.

What you'll be doing

• Build and maintain strong relationships and provide culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
• Assist in the logistics and delivery of the Deadly Choices Education Program in schools and community
• Undertake and promote Kalwun services and refer participants for Aboriginal Health Checks, to other health programs and clinical advice for chronic disease as appropriate
• Undertake the effective facilitation, instruction and role modelling of key health messages and Deadly Choices program modules, including; leadership, chronic disease, physical activity, nutrition, harmful substances, tobacco and smoking cessation, and Medicare access to primary health care
• Undertake the distribution of program surveys and their collection, and ensure appropriate records of all program activities are maintained.

• Is passionate about making a positive impact and supporting others with heart and purpose.
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Able to communicate, engage effectively and work together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative
• Ability to work across the Gold Coast region as required and travel to Brisbane for training and workshop.

Requirements

• A Blue Card for working with children ('No Card No Start' policy applies)
• National police check
• *IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.*
