About Bunurong Land Council

Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.

We work to protect Bunurong cultural heritage, care for Country and strengthen community wellbeing across Greater Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and Bass Coast. Our work is grounded in culture, self-determination, respect and strong governance.

About the Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Bunurong's Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment, a significant project that will help document and recognise Bunurong cultural heritage, values and knowledge across Country while supporting future planning and cultural heritage outcomes.

BLCAC is seeking a motivated and community-focused Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment (SAHA) Coordinator to support the delivery of Bunurong's Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment across Bunurong Country.

Reporting to the Strong Culture Manager, this role coordinates project activities, cultural heritage research, community engagement and project documentation to support the successful delivery of the Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment.

Working closely with Bunurong Traditional Owners, Elders, community members and key stakeholders, you will help ensure Bunurong cultural knowledge, values and heritage are appropriately recognised, recorded and reflected throughout the assessment process.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day activities supporting delivery of Bunurong's Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment.
• Coordinate project schedules, milestones, meetings, workshops and consultation activities to support successful project delivery.
• Assist with cultural heritage research, field assessments, mapping and data collection across Bunurong Country.
• Work collaboratively with Bunurong Traditional Owners, Elders, community members and staff to ensure cultural knowledge and values are appropriately incorporated into the assessment process.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement and consultation activities, building productive relationships with community, government agencies and project partners.
• Prepare reports, mapping, project documentation, correspondence and other project-related materials.
• Maintain accurate project records, cultural heritage information, spatial datasets and supporting documentation.
• Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to the Strong Culture Manager.
• Ensure project activities are undertaken in accordance with the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic), organisational policies and Bunurong cultural protocols.
• Maintain the confidentiality, integrity and appropriate management of culturally sensitive information.
• Contribute positively to a culturally safe, respectful and collaborative team environment.

What You Bring

Qualifications and Experience

• Aboriginality is highly desired (Bunurong Nation affiliation is highly regarded).
• Knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Victoria.
• Experience coordinating projects, preferably within cultural heritage, Aboriginal affairs, land management or related fields.
• Experience working respectfully with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal communities and key stakeholders.
• Experience supporting cultural heritage assessments, research, mapping or documentation projects.
• Experience using GIS platforms, ACHRIS or other cultural heritage information systems is desirable.
• Strong organisational, project coordination and time management skills.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Relevant qualifications in Archaeology, Anthropology, Heritage Management, Environmental Science or a related discipline are desirable.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain.
