Located in western Victoria’s beautiful Wimmera region, Hindmarsh Shire sits between Melbourne and Adelaide on the Western Highway, bordered by the Little Desert and Wyperfeld National Parks. Here, you can enjoy a rural lifestyle with the benefits of a regional city nearby.

Our shire is home to friendly communities across Nhill, Dimboola, Rainbow, and Jeparit, offering great local schools, safe neighbourhoods, and a relaxed pace of life. Explore scenic walking and cycling trails along rivers, lakes, and wetlands or enjoy vibrant local cafés, bakeries, and boutique shops – there is something for everyone.

Join our small, values-driven team delivering services to over 5,500 residents across 7,500 km² - and discover a place where community, opportunity, and lifestyle come together.

Hindmarsh Shire Council currently has the following vacancy:

Permanent Full Time

9-day fortnight

Salary commencing at $82,093 p.a. (plus superannuation)

Lead local works. Enjoy a 9-day fortnight. Make every day different.

Hindmarsh Shire Council is seeking a practical, motivated, and community-minded Team Leader East to coordinate road, civil infrastructure, depot, and maintenance activities across the municipality. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys guiding crews, solving problems on site, and seeing essential community projects delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This role also encompasses administration duties and requires basic computer skills.

  • Step into leadership: supervise and support a capable outdoor works team, coordinate contractors, provide clear direction and help shape daily works across roads, streets, parks, gardens and civil projects.
  • Protect your work-life balance: enjoy permanent full-time employment on a 76-hour fortnight with a 9-day fortnight arrangement, giving you regular time back while doing meaningful local government work.
  • Enjoy real variety: responsibilities span road construction and maintenance, plant and equipment operations, customer requests, inspections, procurement, toolbox meetings, safety practices and continuous improvement.
  • Make a visible impact: contribute to safe, reliable community infrastructure and services that residents, visitors and businesses rely on every day.

If you have strong civil construction knowledge, experience operating plant and equipment, and the confidence to lead, train and motivate a small team, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of important local works while building your leadership career with Council.

  • Minimum Certificate III Civil Construction (or equivalent) or less formal qualifications with relevant and demonstrable work skills.
  • Detailed knowledge in the operation of all road and/or concreting plant, equipment and operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate plant, labour and materials for road construction and/or concreting works, with consideration to OHS requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate small teams.
  • Highly effective administration, communication and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical, Working with Children Check and police check.

Applications that do not address the key selection criteria may not be considered for shortlisting to the interview stage.

Applications close Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 12:00noon.

For enquiries on this position, please contact Daniel Griffiths, Manager Works and Operations, on 03 5391 4444.
