Lifestyle Assistant

Westgate Aged Care Facility is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Lifestyle Assistant to join our team in Newport VIC 3015. This is a part-time position that plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents. As a Lifestyle Assistant, you will be responsible for organising and facilitating recreational activities, social programmes and leisure opportunities that promote wellbeing, engagement and happiness amongst our aged care residents. This role is essential to our commitment to providing holistic, person-centred care that values the dignity and autonomy of every individual in our care.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and facilitate recreational activities and social programmes tailored to residents' interests and abilities
• Develop and maintain activity schedules that promote engagement, mental stimulation and physical wellbeing
• Build meaningful relationships with residents and encourage their participation in activities and social interactions
• Assess residents' individual preferences, mobility levels and cognitive abilities to ensure activities are appropriate and accessible
• Liaise with care staff, families and external service providers to coordinate events and outings
• Maintain detailed records of residents' participation and feedback to inform future programming
• Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that celebrates residents' achievements and promotes community spirit
• Support residents with mobility assistance during activities where required
• Assist with the setup and tidying of activity spaces and materials
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all residents

What we're looking for

• Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, or a relevant qualification/experience in aged care, community services or lifestyle activities
• Demonstrated experience in aged care, community services, lifestyle programs or a related field is highly desirable
• A genuine passion for supporting and engaging with older people
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with residents of varying cognitive and physical abilities
• Patience, empathy and a person-centred approach to care and support
• Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate and manage multiple activities and priorities
• Creativity and enthusiasm for developing and facilitating meaningful and engaging activities for diverse groups of residents
• Ability to encourage resident participation while respecting individual preferences, abilities, cultural backgrounds and choices
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work
• Ability to assist residents safely with mobility and participation in activities, within the scope of the role
• Current First Aid and CPR certificates are highly desirable
• Current Police Check and any other screening/clearances required for employment in residential aged care, or willingness to obtain them
• Understanding of dementia and experience working with residents living with dementia is highly desirable
