Under the direction of the Yunbenun Ranger Coordinator, this position will work on all aspects of Land and Sea Management, including conducting management weeds and fire, waterways, species surveys, and at the advice of and guidance of the Yunbenun Rangers Working Group record Traditional knowledge and monitor culturally significant sites. The rangers work will include a high level of field work and will also include liaison/consultation with government representatives (e.g. QPWS), park visitors, schools and local community groups, other project partners. The role will receive project specific training which will be provided on and off park and will gain experience in performing park patrols and answering public enquiries; and performing any other duties as requested by the Ranger Coordinator. The successful candidate will be required to respect Traditional Owner protocols whilst working on any projects on both land and sea Country.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Yunbenun Ranger will undertake practical on-Country land and sea management, supporting the protection of Yunbenun’s natural and cultural values through conservation, monitoring and visitor management activities. TheYunbenun Ranger position is required to:

• Liaison and communication with Traditional Owner groups, government agencies (QPWS), public, community, media, tourist operators and others.
• Undertake training and actual management of weeds and fire, waterways, monitoring activities (water quality, vegetation, and species surveys) and undertake recordings of traditional knowledge and culturally significant sites that help improve and sustain natural resource and cultural heritage management on Magnetic Island.
• Be involved in talking to the community and school children about the project, the importance of Caring for Country and natural resource management.
• Actively promote and provide a good role model for the Yunbenun Ranger Program.
• Comply with relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation and departmental policies and guidelines relating to this position.
• Promote a culturally safe and respectful work environment for women, guided by cultural protocols.
• Support and encourage the involvement of women in land and sea management activities, knowledge sharing, and monitoring of culturally significant sites.
• Recognise and respect the distinct cultural responsibilities and strengths that women bring to Caring for Country.
• Assist in creating opportunities for mentoring and learning pathways for young women, including community and school engagement.
• Collaborate with female Traditional Owners and Elders to ensure gender-specific cultural knowledge is acknowledged and protected.
• Other activities as required.

This role actively contributes to ensuring the Yunbenun Ranger Program remains inclusive and representative ofboth men’s and women’s cultural and environmental responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be required to respect Wulgurukaba established and/or emergent Traditional Culturalprotocols whilst planning or delivering Yunbenun Ranger activities on land and sea country.
