About the Role – Social Worker Level 3 | Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

As a Social Worker within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), you'll play an important role in supporting children, young people and their families/carers experiencing significant and complex mental health concerns. Through high-quality assessment, therapeutic intervention and case coordination, you'll help shape care that is responsive, holistic and centred around each young person and their support network.

Collaborative multidisciplinary care

You'll bring your Social Work expertise to a dynamic multidisciplinary environment, working alongside experienced clinicians across Psychiatry, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Nursing and Dietetics. Together, you'll contribute to comprehensive assessment, collaborative clinical decision-making and person-centred care that recognises the individual needs of children, young people and their families.

Specialist CAMHS practice

Within HNELHD CAMHS, clinicians undertake specialist child and adolescent mental health assessments, family-based assessments and evidence-informed therapeutic interventions. The model of care supports individual, dyadic and family therapy, complemented by access to specialised consultation, clinical supervision and professional support across the broader CAMHS network.

Where You'll Be Working – CAMHS Greater Newcastle

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Greater Newcastle team, based with the Lake Macquarie CAMHS team at 1A Dudley Road, Charlestown. The service is part of the broader Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) network, with occasional travel to other Greater Newcastle locations during work hours as required.

The Greater Newcastle service provides care for young people experiencing a range of complex mental health needs, with a strong focus on accessible, responsive and family-inclusive support.

Must hold a qualification in Social Work with eligibility for membership with Australian Association of Social Work(AASW).

Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, bringing Social Work expertise to specialist clinical assessment, intervention and care planning for children, young people and their families/carers.
• Deliver developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed and trauma-informed therapeutic interventions, drawing on sound clinical judgement and professional autonomy within scope of practice.
• Maintain high standards of professional practice, ensuring care is delivered within relevant professional, organisational, legal and ethical frameworks.
• Embrace family-centred, culturally responsive and recovery-oriented approaches, recognising the strengths, needs and unique circumstances of each young person and their support network.
• Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives, with a focus on strengthening service delivery and achieving positive outcomes for consumers and families.
• Demonstrate well-developed skills in clinical assessment, formulation, intervention planning and clear, comprehensive clinical documentation.
• Experience working with children, adolescents and families is highly desirable; however, we also welcome clinicians who bring a genuine willingness to learn, engage in reflective practice and contribute positively to a supportive, inclusive and collaborative team culture.
