Allied Health Assistant - Ed Support Level 1-Range 2

St Albans East Primary School caters for a culturally diverse student population and is located in a well-established residential area of St Albans in the City of Brimbank. Currently we have an enrolment of 390students. The school currently comprises of 18classes; the average number of students per class is 22 across the school. The school has a combination of straight and composite classrooms. The SFO (Student Family Occupation) is 0.75 and LBOTE 84%.

St Albans East Primary School hosts the Primary Deaf Facility in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne that caters for the specific learning needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. There are currently 4students enrolled. The current staffing profile comprises of twoTeachers of the Deaf and anAuslan interpreter. To support our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, we teach Auslan as the Language other than English.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum program based on Victorian Curriculum and has been focusing on the High Impact Teaching Strategies. In addition to this we offer the following specialist programs ¿ Visual and Performing Arts, Physical Education, STEM, LOTE (Auslan) and Literacy Support (Fountas & Pinnell Levelled Literacy Intervention).We have a strong commitment to the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy and this will remain a priority for the school.

The completion of thePermanent Modular School BuildingsProject in 2020 hasallowed the school to berebuiltconsisting oftwo newlearning centres, administration building, Deaf and Allied Health Hub. The second stage of building works is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed in term 1 2024. Buildings will consist of new canteen, STEM, Visual Art Studio, Kitchen Garden Program, Community Room, Gymnasium and Performing Arts Centre. This is very exciting for the school community.

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, taking initiative while seeking and accepting direction or advice.
• Professional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate positively with a wide range of people in the educational setting.
• Previous clinical and practical experience in supporting students language, literacy and communication needs.
• Demonstrated skills to implement and facilitate therapy programs designed by a speech pathologist.
• Highly developed record keeping skills to provide feedback on student progress.

Role

Works under supervision and in association with the Speech Pathology and Allied Health team

Works collaboratively and under the direction of speech pathologists and Allied Health team

Runs intervention sessions (individual or group) under guidance of Speech Pathology or Allied Health team

Creates and manages resources for Speech Pathology or Allied Health Team

Completes administration tasks and other duties as directed by Speech Pathology and Allied Health teams

Prepare timely, well written documentation, follow relevant policies and procedures, and provide effective verbal feedback

Act in a professional and ethical manner.

Responsibilities

• Implement speech pathology intervention programs under the guidance of Speech Pathology and Allied Health Team.
• Administer informal assessments and screening under guidance of Speech Pathology and Allied Health Team.
• Update and follow work plan as discussed with Speech Pathology and Allied Health Team
• Communication with Speech Pathology and Allied Health Team regarding student progress, sessions, intervention strategies and feedback
• Attend team meetings as necessary
• Demonstrate strong commitment to ongoing professional development
• Communicate directly to the therapy team leader. Reports issues, discuss complex cases and queries with the Speech Pathology and Allied Health Team
• Maintain appropriate records and provide written and oral reports as required
• Providing therapy programs to children under the guidance of an onsite qualified speech pathologist, supporting children's communication, play, social skills and literacy development

Who May Apply

Enrolled and activelystudying a degree in Speech Pathologyor havecompleted a Certificate IV - Allied Health Assistance course

Current Working With Children Check is mandatory for this position

High standard of verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Effective time management skills

Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
