The role

This is an exciting permanent full-time opportunity to lead Council's Payroll team and take ownership of the delivery of an accurate, compliant and customer-focused payroll function.

As Team Leader Payroll, you will provide leadership and support to the team while overseeing the end-to-end payroll function, including payroll processing, systems, customer service, policies, procedures and continuous improvement.

As Council's internal payroll and systems expert, you will play a key role in ensuring our payroll practices meet legislative, Award, ATO, superannuation and organisational requirements. You'll provide trusted advice across the organisation, work with external advisors and system providers where required, and drive improvements that strengthen the way we deliver payroll services.

Importantly, you'll also create a positive and supportive team environment, building capability and supporting the wellbeing and development of your team.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

• Lead, mentor and develop the Payroll team, building capability, performance and a positive team environment.
• Oversee the effective delivery of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and high-quality customer service.
• Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures in line with legislation, Award requirements and Council standards.
• Provide expert payroll and systems advice, ensuring compliance with ATO, superannuation and internal requirements.
• Coordinate payroll reconciliations, audits and end-of-year processes.
• Drive continuous improvement across payroll systems, processes and service delivery.
• Oversee payroll system maintenance and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, vendors and external specialists.
• Identify training needs and deliver payroll-related training and development across the team and organisation.

You will have

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent experience leading an end-to-end payroll function.
• Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll within a medium to large organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Award and Enterprise Agreement interpretation, superannuation, PAYG, STP and taxation requirements.
• Proven experience leading and developing a payroll team.
• Strong understanding of payroll deadlines, accuracy controls, reconciliations, reporting and audit requirements.
• Demonstrated experience using HRIS and payroll systems, such as SuccessFactors, SAP and Kronos.
• Ability to confidently resolve complex payroll discrepancies, escalations and employee enquiries.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and data integrity.

The salary for this position starts from $108,644 (Grade H, Step 1) + 12% super.
