The Regional Disease Surveillance Project Support Officer provides crucial support to the Animal Health and Welfare Team by delivering high-quality, timely disease surveillance project and program support in the South East region (encompassing the Port Phillip and Gippsland Regions).

To perform effectively in this role, it is essential to have demonstrated skills in project management, IT systems and data management, stakeholder engagement and education. The successful applicant will have familiarity with and operational understanding of animal disease surveillance, veterinary practices, and animal disease investigation; technical skills; communication skills; a collaborative mindset; and the ability to work seamlessly across various projects, teams, and units within Biosecurity Victoria and Agriculture Victoria.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

• Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture or similar is an advantage
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the protocols and accountabilities associated with providing high-level animal disease surveillance technical and support functions, particularly around handling sensitive material and sensitive issues within a regulatory agency, veterinary practices and their clients.
• Possess initiative, strong organisational skills, ability to operate with minimal guidance and prioritise tasks with competing demands to achieve desired results and outcomes.
• High-level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including private practitioners, senior staff and district managers.
• Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to resolve operational issues to achieve agreed outcomes and identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of information, including responding to enquiries, coordinating correspondence and document tracking within time constraints.
• Ability to prepare technical documents using clear, concise, and grammatically correct language; ensures written communications contain necessary information to achieve their purpose; uses appropriate style and formats.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 3 years. The work location for this position is Flexible within Port Phillip and Gippsland regions with hybrid work arrangements available.
