Community Service Officer - Youth

It was a simple promise Legacy keeps today. Providing the same stability, guidance and assistance a partner would normally provide to their family. With a group of dedicated volunteers, known as Legatees, Legacy Brisbane currently supports over 3000 widow(er)s, 117 people with a disability and 195 Legacy youth.

About the role

An opportunity exists for an experienced Community Services Officer – Youth to provide direct support services to Legacy Brisbane clients, with a particular focus on children and young people aged between 12 and 25. You will be confident working from a strengths-based, person-centred approach and will be known for your excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-management skills.

This is a permanent, part-time position working four days per week, based at the Legacy Brisbane office and reporting to the Community Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct client enrolments, intake and assessments, support planning, and reviews
• Provide personal support, including bereavement support, information, advocacy, and referral services
• Coordinate complex client interventions and assist children and young people with DVA pension applications, including support to complete forms and make phone calls where appropriate.
• Support and enable Legatees in service delivery through attendance at Contact Group meetings and ongoing communication
• Contribute to youth events and activities throughout the year, including day activities and the annual Youth Camp, with some activities held on weekends.
• Participate in key Legacy events such as Anzac Day and maintain strong working relationships with Legatees, volunteers and community stakeholders.
• Maintain current knowledge of service delivery and referral policies and procedures, and communicate effectively with clients, Legatees and volunteers.
• Keep accurate and compliant client records in line with legal, ethical, and organisational requirements.
• Plan, monitor and report on activities as required, and undertake additional duties relevant to the role.

Skills and Experience

• Diploma of Community Services, Welfare, Youth Work or a related discipline, and/or substantial relevant experience while working towards a qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years’ previous experience working within the community sector
• Demonstrated experience providing assessment, individual planning and support to clients, preferably children and young people, within relevant standards and legislative requirements.
• Highly developed organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Positive Blue Card, National Police Check and unrestricted Queensland driver’s licence.

Highly Regarded

• Sound knowledge of government services such as DVA, My Aged Care and NDIS
• Current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one
• Previous experience with CRM and online case management tools
• Knowledge of trauma informed practice, person centred practice and a strength-based approach to service delivery
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
