Australasian Mail Services Pty Ltd The Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, maintenance, security, and ongoing optimisation of the organisation's IT infrastructure and systems. The position ensures that servers, operating systems, networks, applications, user accounts, cloud services, backups, and related ICT infrastructure remain secure, reliable, available, and fit for business operations.

The Systems Administrator provides technical support to users, investigates and resolves system-related incidents, implements system changes, and contributes to ICT projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

JOB DUTIES

\n

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain physical and virtual servers, operating systems, and related infrastructure. Manage Windows and/or Linux server environments, including system services, storage, permissions, and system configurations.
\n
• Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and resource utilisation. Perform routine system maintenance, patching, upgrades, and configuration changes. Identify and resolve hardware, operating system, application, and infrastructure-related issues.
\n
• Maintain system documentation, configuration records, asset information, and technical procedures.
\n
• Administer and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPNs, and related services. Configure and maintain DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Active Directory, Group Policy, and other core network and directory services.
\n
• Monitor network performance and investigate connectivity, availability, and performance issues. Assist with the design, implementation, and improvement of network and infrastructure solutions.
\n
• Create, modify, and deactivate user accounts and access permissions in accordance with organisational policies.
\n
• Administer Active Directory, Microsoft 365, cloud platforms, and other identity and access management systems. Implement appropriate security controls, permissions, authentication mechanisms, and access policies. Provide technical assistance to users and elevate complex issues where appropriate.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Security and Data Protection Implement and maintain system security controls, endpoint protection, firewalls, access controls, and security policies. Apply operating system and application security patches and updates. Monitor systems for potential security events, vulnerabilities, and unauthorised access.
\n
• Support cybersecurity incident investigation, remediation, and recovery activities. Maintain and test backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.
\n
• Backup, Recovery and Business Continuity Configure, monitor, and maintain automated data and system backups. Regularly verify backup integrity and conduct restoration tests. Assist in developing and maintaining disaster recovery procedures. Participate in system recovery activities following outages, failures, or security incidents.
\n
• Technical Support and Troubleshooting Provide second- and third-level technical support for infrastructure and system-related incidents. Diagnose problems using system logs, monitoring tools, diagnostic utilities, and structured troubleshooting methodologies. Respond to incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.

• Liaise with vendors, service providers, and other ICT personnel to resolve technical issues.

Qualification & experience

\n

\n
• QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree or higher qualification in a highly relevant ICT field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, System Administration). A minimum of 1 to 2 years of professional post-graduate experience highly relevant to system administration.
\n
• Demonstrated experience managing server architecture, Active Directory, Group Policies, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise data backup solutions. Experience administering Windows and/or Linux operating systems. Experience with networking, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and related infrastructure services.
\n
• Knowledge of system security, backup, disaster recovery, and access management principles. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Experience with scripting or automation, such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
\n
• Experience working with IT service management processes and ticketing systems. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet service-level requirements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
\n
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an ICT team. Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
