Key duties of the position include:

In this role, you will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of ARPANSA's Radiochemistry and Environmental Sciences (RES) Laboratory Safety Uplift Project. Operating under broad direction, you will manage complex stakeholder relationships, project governance, technical inputs and delivery activities required to achieve fit-for-purpose laboratory infrastructure outcomes that improve safety, compliance and operational resilience.

You will act as the central coordination point between scientific staff, Facilities and Engineering, WHS, procurement specialists, contractors and executive stakeholders, ensuring the right expertise is engaged at the right time to support informed decision-making and effective project delivery.

The role is responsible for establishing project governance arrangements, managing project scope, budgets, schedules, risks and dependencies, and ensuring refurbishment activities align with laboratory operational requirements and relevant standards. You will support the successful delivery of infrastructure upgrades while minimising impacts on critical laboratory functions and maintaining stakeholder confidence throughout the project lifecycle.

Key accountabilities

• Deliver the RES Laboratory Uplift Project to achieve agreed project outcomes, including modern, safe and fit-for-purpose laboratory facilities that support current and future operational requirements.


• Provide effective project leadership and governance to ensure delivery within approved scope, budget, schedule and risk tolerances.


• Coordinate stakeholders, technical specialists and contractors to develop and implement practical solutions that meet scientific, safety and operational needs.


• Maintain laboratory capability and operational continuity throughout project delivery by minimising disruption to critical services and laboratory activities.


• Foster a collaborative, safe and high-performing project environment that supports informed decision-making, continuous improvement and successful project outcomes.

Eligibility

To be considered for this position, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in project management, engineering, science, construction, facilities management or a related discipline, or possess equivalent experience relevant to the duties of the position.

You will have demonstrated experience managing complex infrastructure, scientific, technical or facilities projects involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and significant organisational dependencies. Experience delivering laboratory, research, health, technical or regulated environment infrastructure projects would be highly regarded.

You must hold Australian citizenship. ARPANSA requires all new employees to obtain and maintain a national security clearance as a condition of engagement. You must also meet required pre-employment checks as necessary.

Selection criteria

• Demonstrated experience delivering complex infrastructure, facilities or capital projects, including project planning, governance, scheduling, budgeting, procurement and risk management, with a proven ability to achieve outcomes within agreed timeframes and resource constraints.


• Demonstrated experience delivering laboratory or other specialist facility refurbishment projects, including projects undertaken under design and construct or similar integrated delivery models. This includes the ability to translate complex operational requirements into design outcomes and coordinate design, construction, commissioning and stakeholder acceptance activities within regulated environments.


• Highly developed stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate diverse groups, facilitate decision-making, negotiate competing priorities and maintain productive relationships across technical and non-technical audiences.


• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and integrate technical, operational and business requirements from multiple subject matter experts to develop practical, fit-for-purpose solutions while balancing safety, compliance, operational and budget considerations.


• Strong analytical, organisational and project governance skills, including the ability to manage project risks, issues and dependencies, and prepare high-quality project documentation and executive reporting that supports informed decision-making.

The Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website provides detailed information about the requirements for obtaining a security clearance at the required level, the documentary evidence you will be required to provide, the forms that need to be completed, and the relevant timeframes. ARPANSA is responsible for assessing how information relates to the agency’s security risks, as well as a person’s suitability for employment by the agency. ARPANSA will use the information you provide to undertake relevant checks in order to identify any factors or circumstances that pose a security risk to the agency and assess whether you are suitable to have access to the agencies non-public assets. You will be notified if you are assessed as unsuitable for employment by the agency.
